About this Role

We are looking for a qualified Financial Accountant to join our finance team on a six‑month fixed‑term contract at an exciting point in our growth. Reporting to the CFO, you will take ownership of the technical accounting that keeps a fast‑moving, international professional services business running, with the year‑end audit as your headline priority. This is a hands‑on, broad role in a lean team. Alongside the day‑to‑day running of the accounts, you will lead our audit preparation and play a central part in two significant projects: a smooth, well‑controlled external audit and the transition to a new ERP accounting system. You may also oversee a junior member of the finance team. It is a genuine opportunity for a practice‑trained accountant to step into industry, broaden their remit and have real influence over how our finance function works as we scale.

Key Accountabilities

  • Audit preparation: leading preparation for the annual external audit, including building and owning the audit schedule, preparing supporting workpapers and reconciliations, acting as the main day‑to‑day contact for the auditors and resolving queries through to sign‑off.
  • Financial statements: drafting the statutory financial statements and supporting notes in line with the relevant accounting standards, ensuring they are accurate, complete and audit‑ready.
  • Month‑end and reporting: owning the month‑end close, including journals, accruals, prepayments and balance‑sheet reconciliations, and producing timely, reliable management accounts.
  • Technical accounting: providing technical accounting guidance across the business, researching the treatment of new or unusual transactions and documenting accounting positions.
  • Controls and process: maintaining and strengthening internal controls and finance processes, and helping to embed good practice as the team grows.
  • Multi‑entity and cross‑border: supporting accounting across our UK, US and European entities, including intercompany balances and a multi‑currency environment.
  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) transition: playing a central role in the move to a new ERP accounting system, from data migration and reconciliation to testing, process mapping and embedding the new system in business as usual.
  • Compliance support: supporting the CFO with tax, VAT and other statutory filings and wider finance compliance obligations.
  • Team: potentially overseeing and developing a junior member of the finance team.

Key Skills, Personal Attributes & Behaviours

  • A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with meaningful post‑qualification experience.
  • A practice background, with hands‑on external audit experience essential.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and proven experience preparing statutory financial statements.
  • Demonstrable experience running or supporting a year‑end audit, including ownership of the audit schedule.
  • Experience of an ERP implementation or system migration (highly desirable).
  • Experience in a professional services business and exposure to multi‑entity, multi‑currency or UK and US accounting (advantageous).
  • Excellent attention to detail and a genuinely hands‑on, roll‑up‑the‑sleeves approach.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines through busy periods.
  • The ability to explain financial matters clearly and concisely to non‑specialists, in writing and in person.
  • Integrity, intellectual curiosity and the confidence to express an opinion and propose improvements.

The base salary for this role will be upwards of £80,000 per annum (prorated) based on experience and may also include a discretionary bonus.
