It owns both day to day performance and ongoing improvement, so work is done once, scaled across the firm, and focused on client and investment outcomes. Enterprise Architecture serves the needs of Fidelity and its clients, by aligning Business, Process, and Technology strategies to achieve business value. To meet the demands of our current and future business models, Architecture set standards, principles and guidance that prioritises resilient, adaptable, consistent, and cost-effective architecture through process and technology delivery. About your role

Reporting to the Head of Enterprise Architecture, you will lead the definition, adoption, and enforcement of engineering standards across the organisation. Your mandate is to establish a clear and consistent set of guardrails that ensure all engineering practices are scalable, secure, compliant, and aligned to enterprise architecture principles. You will own the end‑to‑end lifecycle of engineering standards - shaping their design, driving firm-wide adoption, and embedding strong governance to ensure consistent application across platforms, products, and delivery teams. This includes setting standards for architecture patterns, development practices, integration, security, and cloud engineering. You will also drive continuous evolution of engineering standards in line with emerging technologies, regulatory expectations, and enterprise strategy, ensuring they remain relevant, forward-looking, and outcome focused. The role is accountable for providing transparency on adherence, identifying areas of deviation or risk, and enabling corrective actions through governance forums and operating rhythms, ensuring consistent, high-quality engineering outcomes across the organisation.

About you

  • Engineering Standards Leadership: Proven experience defining and operationalising enterprise engineering standards, with a strong focus on driving adoption and consistent application across large, complex organisations.
  • Architecture & Guardrails Expertise: Deep understanding of enterprise architecture principles and modern engineering practices (cloud, APIs, microservices), with the ability to translate these into clear, practical guardrails for delivery teams.
  • Governance & Enforcement: Strong track record of embedding governance frameworks that balance control with agility, ensuring standards are adhered to through effective monitoring, reporting, and intervention mechanisms.
  • Driving Adoption at Scale: Ability to influence and embed standards across diverse engineering teams, platforms, and regions, ensuring alignment without creating unnecessary friction to delivery.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to partner effectively with Engineering, Architecture, Platform, Security, and Risk teams to align standards with business and regulatory needs.
  • Pragmatic & Outcome-Focused: Able to balance standardisation with flexibility, ensuring standards are practical, implementable, and drive tangible improvements in quality, scalability, and resilience.
  • Continuous Improvement Mindset: Experience evolving engineering standards in line with emerging technologies, industry best practices, and regulatory expectations, ensuring they remain relevant and future-ready.
  • Risk & Control Awareness: Strong understanding of operational risk, security, and compliance requirements in financial services, ensuring standards support safe, auditable, and controlled engineering practices.
  • Data-Driven & Insight-Oriented: Ability to use metrics and insights to measure adherence, identify gaps, and drive continuous improvement in engineering quality and consistency.
  • Leadership & Influence: Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, building credibility with senior stakeholders and fostering a culture of accountability, quality, and engineering excellence.
