Within the UK and Ireland our engineers and consultants are involved in some of the most innovative energy projects across the UK providing design, intellectual, and engineering services to developers, investors, owners, and operators. Projects in development, construction, or operation in the UK and Ireland, include more than 60 major thermal power plants across the waste, biomass, and conventional power sectors, 10 GWh of battery storage, 5 GW of solar, 7 GW of on-shore and off-shore wind, 5 GWh of pumped storage hydro projects, and 20 carbon capture projects aiming to capture and permanently sequestrate more than 5 million tonnes of CO2 per annum.

We are now looking to recruit an experienced Senior Engineer who has a mechanical engineering degree coupled with experience in the detailed design and/or manufacturing of process equipment to support our ongoing support to industrial decarbonisation projects.

Responsibilities

The role involves contributing to the detailed design and/or manufacturing of process equipment and supporting industrial decarbonisation projects. Specific expectations include:

  • Prepare and review mechanical designs for process plants, including heat & mass balances, basis of design documents, process calculations, material selection, functional descriptions, equipment data sheets, technical specifications and cause/effect charts;
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of process plant layout, with working knowledge of pipework routing and arrangement;
  • Apply principles of process safety and maintain working knowledge of quality control systems applicable to process plant design and manufacturing;
  • Possess a good knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, material science and strength of materials and structures;
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with standards for the design of industrial process components, including areas such as packed columns, gas compressors, pumps/fans/blowers for large utility facilities, and pressure safety systems for various media (e.g., steam, hydrogen, CO2);
  • Contribute to process plant layout planning and pipework routing;
  • Offer readiness to travel both in the UK and occasionally overseas.

Qualifications

  • a good degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • ideally a Chartered Engineer;
  • good practical experience in the detailed design and/or manufacturing of process equipment, heat exchangers or piping systems/pressure parts used in gas refining, industrial gas production and use, gaseous chemical production, CO2 capture and storage, process and mechanical systems in power stations;
  • full familiarity with the applicable standards for the design of industrial process components (as listed above);
  • good understanding of process safety principles;
  • working knowledge of quality control systems relevant to process plant design and manufacturing;
  • knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, material science and strength of materials and structures;
  • full right to work in the UK; and
  • the ability and willingness to travel both in the UK and occasionally overseas.
