FGS Agri is looking for a practical and organised Assistant Contracting Manager to support the planning and delivery of its agricultural, environmental and specialist contracting services.

FGS Agri are an integrated business supplying the needs of the agriculture and utility sector across the South East, as part of Heathcote Holdings Group. The company prides itself on providing solutions to our clients promptly and professionally, whilst continuing to expand within a rapidly moving sector.

Working alongside the Contracting Manager, the successful candidate will coordinate projects, seasonal workloads, operational teams, machinery, transport, materials and subcontractors. They will also assist with customer enquiries, site visits, estimates, quotations and project costings, with the opportunity to take on greater responsibility as their knowledge and experience develop.

Responsibilities :

  • Coordinate allocated projects and report on progress, costs, variations and operational issues.
  • Plan labour, machinery, transport, materials and subcontractor requirements.
  • Prepare work instructions, site plans, maps, risk assessments and method statements, and toolbox talks.
  • Support operational teams and carry out site inspections covering safety, quality, productivity and programme performance.
  • Assist with agricultural, vegetation management, tree clearance, excavator, amenity, habitat creation, environmental and seasonal contracting work.
  • Help coordinate hay and straw operations, including harvest, storage, stock management and customer deliveries.
  • Monitor machinery availability, utilisation, productivity and operating costs.
  • Maintain effective relationships with customers, suppliers, subcontractors and colleagues.
  • Support seasonal recruitment, inductions, competency assessments and training needs.
  • Identify opportunities to develop customer relationships and expand the Contracting division's services.
  • Provide hands-on operational support during busy periods, including operating machinery or plant when appropriately trained.

Requirements for the role :

  • Full Clean driving licence
  • 5 years practical agricultural experience
  • Ability to work under pressure and make decisions when required
  • IT literate
  • Ability to work within a close team in a family orientated business.
  • Hours can vary due to seasonality, managed on a rotational basis
