This is a new role within the organisation reporting directly to the board of directors working closely with the managing director. You will be expected to oversee the finance function in a stand-alone role, supported by the Finance Director. Responsible for everything from generating sales invoices from timesheets, managing the purchase ledger, payment runs and weekly management reporting and cashflow monitoring. You will maintain accurate financial records, support robust financial processes, and provide insights that help drive the wider business forward.

Your role will involve:

  • Taking overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the finance function, ensuring accurate and timely financial records are maintained in line with regulatory and organisational requirements.
  • Overseeing core transactional finance activities, working closely with the Finance Director to ensure the timely and accurate collation of timesheets and generation of sales invoices, processing of intercompany recharges, maintenance of sales and purchase ledgers, and regular reconciliation of bank accounts.
  • Preparing and processing weekly payment runs, employee expense payments and monthly payroll payments.
  • Supporting and overseeing the preparation of weekly management accounts, VAT returns, budgets and financial forecasts, ensuring accuracy, completeness and adherence to reporting deadlines.
  • Monitoring and managing company cashflow, including forecasting cash requirements, maintaining oversight of debtor and creditor positions, and providing insight to support effective financial planning and decision-making.
  • Preparing ad hoc financial reports, reconciliations and analysis, responding to business queries and providing meaningful financial insight to support operational and strategic decisions.
  • Managing relationships with the outsourced finance partner and external accountants, ensuring key deliverables such as VAT returns, year-end accounts and statutory reporting are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Maintaining and strengthening financial controls, processes and reporting systems, identifying opportunities for improvement, enhancing efficiency, and supporting the organisation in achieving strong financial governance and sustainability.
  • Working collaboratively with the board of directors and managing director to provide financial insight, support business planning, and contribute to continuous improvement across financial processes.
  • Assisting with finance related administrative tasks to ensure overall efficiency within the organisation.

You must be able to demonstrate:

  • Hold a professional qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent).
  • Experience of using Xero and Dext Prepare is desired, but not essential.
  • Understanding the importance of confidentiality and handling of sensitive data such as payroll information.
  • Minimum 2 years post qualification experience in a similar role.
  • An interest in the energy and infrastructure industry and progression towards a net zero carbon target.

Location may involve some travel to Edinburgh as needed with travel and hotel accommodation provided where needed. Salary: £35,000-40,000 per annum based on experience.
