As the Assistant Buyer for Home Lifestyle - Dine at Tesco, you will play a huge role within the team, working alongside a Buying Manager. You will be responsible for ensuring we plan and deliver the most commercial and profitable ranges to meet our Customer’s needs. This role suits someone with existing Assistant Buyer experience looking for their next challenge.
Responsibilities
- Providing buying support to keep the department running smoothly, preparing reports and analysis for the Manager
- Understanding customer needs, market trends and competitor activity
- Helping source products for the department, working with International sourcing
- Identifying new product opportunities and guiding them through product development stages from concept to production to bring new products to the ranges
- Conducting regular store and website visits to assess competitor ranges and prices, and using this information to shape future product and range requirements
- Reviewing existing suppliers and their performance (with support)
- Negotiating product prices and supplier terms (including returns) with support, improving the trading position sustainably
- Supporting category merchandising colleagues in the trade planning process
- Understanding and supporting the departmental sourcing strategy
- Working with suppliers and the technical team to ensure product quality is achieved and maintained, and managing artwork
- Actively participating in the range building process to support the Manager in delivering great products and ranges that meet all key milestones
- Managing samples (including acquisition, storage and disposal)
- Working with HSC Admin to ensure new products and suppliers are set up accurately and on time
- Maintaining department systems and trackers (including Buyer View, EQOS, Range Plan) and ensuring they are accurate and updated in a timely manner
- Loading commercial income and ensuring suppliers are invoiced correctly
- Reviewing and sharing product returns, identifying opportunities for product improvement
- Following the Business Code of Conduct and acting with integrity and due diligence
Qualifications
- Retail experience
- Passion for product, ideally with a strong interest in Home/Lifestyle
- Analysis and report preparation skills
- Data analysis and numeracy skills
