QA Engineer (Mobile) - 2+ years experience

Up to £45,000 + Benefits

Regulated Digital Health Company

Remote-First (UK-based) | Quarterly meet-ups in London

The Opportunity

Join a digital health company with almost 10M users globally, helping people quit bad habits like smoking. Millions of users rely on their iOS and Android app during some of the most difficult moments in their health journey. They operate as a Class I medical device software company with regulated healthcare partnerships such as NHS. That means every release carries real accountability and QA is a core part of product delivery, not an afterthought.

They are looking for a Mobile QA Engineer with 2+ years experience who is curious, methodical, and genuinely cares about user experience. You’ll work across iOS, Android, and Flutter apps, embedded in an agile product team and supported directly by a Lead QA Engineer. This is a role for someone building a long-term QA career in a serious, regulated product environment as they move longer-term to automation testing.

What You’ll Do

  • Run manual exploratory, functional, and regression testing across real iOS and Android devices (Native + Flutter apps)
  • Translate user stories and acceptance criteria into structured, high-quality test cases (happy paths, edge cases, negative flows)
  • Raise clear, actionable bug reports in Jira, including reproduction steps, device details, and evidence (screenshots/video where needed)
  • Go beyond the UI: use Firebase and backend tools to validate data integrity and system behaviour
  • Test daily builds via TestFlight (iOS) and Firebase App Distribution (Android), including smoke tests and hotfix validation
  • Support sprint-level visibility by tracking defect trends, test coverage, and release confidence metrics

As you grow

  • Collaborate early with engineers and product to define testable acceptance criteria before development begins
  • Participate fully in sprint ceremonies (planning, standups, retros)
  • Contribute to improving QA processes, documentation, and ways of working as the team scales

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • 2+ years’ experience in manual QA / software testing on iOS and Android mobile devices
  • Ability to interpret requirements and write structured, thoughtful test cases
  • Experience with Jira (or similar) for bug tracking, with high-quality reporting standards
  • Some experience using Firebase (or equivalent) to validate backend/data behaviour
  • Clear, precise written communication; you can describe technical issues without ambiguity
  • Comfortable working in fast-moving, startup-style environments with evolving requirements

Preferred

  • Exposure to Flutter (or React Native alongside native apps)
  • Experience with TestFlight and Firebase App Distribution
  • Basic API testing experience (e.g. Postman)
  • Familiarity with Charles Proxy or similar network inspection tools
  • Interest in health tech, behaviour change, or digital wellness products

Who You Are

  • You are structured and thorough, but not slow
  • You notice edge cases others miss and you care enough to log them properly
  • You think about the user experience, not just whether the spec is met
  • You ask questions early rather than assuming and testing the wrong thing
  • You want to grow into a strong QA engineer, not just execute scripts

Tech & Tools

  • Mobile: iOS (Swift / Native), Android, Flutter
  • Bug tracking: Jira
  • Build distribution: TestFlight, Firebase App Distribution
  • Backend/Data: Firebase, Google BigQuery
  • API testing: Postman (helpful)
  • Network inspection: Charles Proxy (nice to have)
  • Docs: Notion
