Fether Labs is recruiting a Mechanical Design Engineer or Industrial Product Designer to build sensors and wearable products.
Location: Hammersmith, London, UK (on‑site)
Salary: ÂŁ50,000+ equity package (depending on experience)

Fether Labs is building wristbands that redefine human–computer interaction. With a flick, a pinch, or a squeeze, any gesture can be programmed into a command. Our product features a proprietary sensor technology invented at Imperial College London, allowing for a natural, precise, and expansive set of interactions.
THE ROLE
We are looking for a talented and ambitious mechanical engineer or industrial product designer who thrives in high‑intensity, high‑impact environments. You will join our hardware team and have the opportunity to touch many aspects of the company. You will be responsible for further developing our working prototypes towards mass production, ensuring the device is functional, comfortable, ergonomic, and visually appealing. Additionally, you will conduct research and development of the core sensor technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Leadership: Lead the mechanical design process, focusing on technical performance, comfort, aesthetics, and Design for Manufacture (DFM).
- CAD: Rapidly develop CAD models to progress existing prototypes into commercial‑grade wearable devices.
- R&D: Use initiative to research and develop core sensor technology.
- Supply Chain: Lead sourcing efforts and manage the bill of materials (BOM).
- Prototyping & Production: Lead prototyping and transition to mass manufacturing, including in‑house fabrication using FDM/SLA 3D.
- Product Design: Proven experience in designing and developing commercial‑grade products.
- CAD & DFM: Excellence in 3D CAD and DFM.
- Prototyping & Production: Excellent prototyping skills and workflows (3D printing, CNC, hand finishing) and knowledge of mass manufacturing processes.
- Material Science: Excellent industrial materials knowledge and an intuitive understanding of material science and engineering principles.
- Startup Mindset: Flexibility to contribute to different areas as needed in a fast‑growth startup.
- Soft Skills: Excellent problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and strong communication and project management abilities.
- Drive: Ability to maintain focus and motivation in a high‑intensity, deadline‑driven environment.
- Location: Commutable distance to Hammersmith.
- Lifecycle Experience: Experience developing products through the full lifecycle from initial concept to successful mass production.
- Global Manufacturing: Experience managing overseas manufacturers and complex supply chains.
- Advanced Fabrication: Knowledge of pioneering and precision prototyping materials and processes, such as Micro‑CNC.
- Advanced Modeling: Experience with FEA or other advanced modeling tools.
- Specialist Expertise: Experience with wearable electronics, smart devices, medical devices, or assistive technology.
