Rebellion is seeking a talented, highly experienced, and deeply driven Senior Environment Artist to champion the visual quality and environmental storytelling of an exciting, unannounced AAA title. Operating with a massive amount of autonomy, you will take full ownership of entire levels, translating loose creative briefs into high-fidelity, polished game spaces. In this leadership‑adjacent role, you will bridge the gap between imagination and execution—collaborating tightly with level designers, conducting proactive asset research, handling outsource feedback, and setting performance metrics for current‑gen platforms. Crucially, you will serve as an active mentor and role model for our environment art team, fostering an office atmosphere of intense creativity, technical growth, and mutual enthusiasm.

This is a monumental moment to step into a leadership pipeline at Rebellion. Fresh off the massive, critically acclaimed success of Atomfall—our largest, most ambitious game launch to date—and building upon the legendary legacy of our flagship Sniper Elite series, we are aggressively looking forward to the future. We are seeking a passionate, technically accomplished senior artist to help elevate the visual threshold, moody atmosphere, and underlying environment narratives of a highly anticipated, unannounced project. This is a rare opportunity to step into an environment where you are trusted with true autonomy. You won’t just be executing checklists; you will be expected to prototype, research real‑world references, and pick up critical tasks along the way while keeping an eagle‑eye view on the global artistic vision of the game.

Core Roles & Responsibilities

  • Spatial Design & Advanced Prototyping
  • Narrative Flow Planning: Partner tightly with Rebellion Level Designers to transform gray-box layout concepts into visually stunning, logical, and highly navigable spaces.
  • Worldbuilding Documentation: Design spaces with deep consideration for environmental storytelling, lighting, and history, clearly documenting your thematic intentions for cross‑discipline transparency.
  • Loose‑Brief Navigation: Proactively research, prototype, and unpack abstract or loose art briefs, turning ambiguous concepts into concrete 3D mechanics and visual anchors.
  • Technical Quality Control: Work alongside Technical Artists and Senior Artists to monitor, establish, and safeguard the performance optimization of current‑gen console scenes.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Communicate clearly with producers, directors, and external stakeholders to pitch asset directions and smoothly incorporate project feedback.
  • Outsource Guidance: Review, critique, and provide highly actionable aesthetic and technical feedback for work returned by external outsourcing pipelines.
  • Active Mentorship: Act as an accessible professional mentor and role model for junior and mid-level artists, reviewing their work and encouraging technical proficiency.
  • Morale Cultivation: Support the Lead Environment Artist with ad‑hoc production requests, actively working to keep team morale, passion, and artistic enthusiasm incredibly high.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

We are looking for an industry veteran who sits comfortably at the perfect intersection of creative world‑building and strict technical scene management. Your portfolio must showcase breathtaking realistic environments, advanced modular layouts, and complex prop structures deployed smoothly within a modern game engine.

Professional Experience

  • Proven AAA Background: Extensive experience operating within a professional video game development environment across major shipping cycles.
  • Profiling & Optimizing: Deep knowledge of engine profiling tools to optimize geometric scenes, combat draw‑call limitations, and master budget targets for modern current‑gen hardware.
  • In‑Engine Lighting: Direct, hands‑on experience setting up, baking, or dynamic‑lighting environments within a modern engine pipeline to maximize emotional mood and composition.

Software & Technical Expertise

  • 3D Mastery: Expert familiarity with industry‑standard 3D software suites. While various modeling backgrounds are welcomed, Blender remains Rebellion’s preferred pipeline tool.
  • Texturing, Baking, & PBR: Comprehensive mastery of Substance Painter, high‑to‑low poly baking routines, and the underlying physics of PBR material authoring.
  • Production Cleanliness: Absolute precision when building game‑ready geometry, maximizing uv‑space layout efficiency, and maintaining hyper‑accurate texel densities.

At Rebellion, we believe that our people are our greatest asset. To ensure our team feels valued, secure, and motivated, we offer an extensive, industry‑leading benefits package designed to support your life both inside and outside the studio:
