Rebellion is seeking a talented and proactive Mid‑Level Environment Artist to play a vital role in shaping the visual identity of an exciting, unannounced AAA video game. In this role, you will bridge the gap between creative imagination and technical execution, taking ownership of both individual hero props and the aesthetic composition of entire game levels.

The Opportunity & Project Vision: Fresh off the success of Atomfall and the legacy of the Sniper Elite series, we are looking for a technically accomplished artist to elevate the visual fidelity, atmosphere, and environmental storytelling of a highly anticipated, unannounced project. This is a rare opportunity to get in on the ground floor of an exciting new world, helping build the physical presence of the game from early block‑outs to final polished AAA assets.

Core Roles & Responsibilities: As a mid‑level artist at Rebellion, you will have direct ownership of your work, managing everything from individual hero props to the visual identity of entire levels. Your day‑to‑day journey will include:

  • Spatial Planning & Visual Storytelling: Assist in planning out environmental spaces, ensuring that every room, street, or landscape tells a story, reflects the game’s lore, and respects the underlying narrative context.
  • Documentation: Clear documentation of your artistic intentions, references, and scene‑planning pipelines to keep cross‑discipline teams aligned.
  • Design Alignment: Partner tightly with Rebellion Level Designers to transform gray‑box prototypes into visually stunning, navigable spaces that protect core gameplay loops and player flow.
  • Technical Synergy: Work alongside Technical Artists and Senior Artists to establish, maintain, and safeguard the technical and artistic quality of the project.
  • Feedback Integration: Actively implement and incorporate constructive feedback from Producers, Art Directors, and Project Leads to iteratively elevate the game’s aesthetic.

Asset Production & Management: Author highly functional, modular assets and systems that can be shared across the project, balancing artistic beauty with technical constraints. Provide clear, professional, and actionable feedback on assets created by external outsourcing partners, ensuring they seamlessly match Rebellion’s internal quality standards. Maintain rigorous organization by tracking, updating, and managing your daily tasks using our designated project tracking software.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications: We are looking for an artist who sits comfortably at the intersection of technical discipline and raw creative talent. The ideal candidate will possess a portfolio that showcases realistic art styles, high‑fidelity prop work, and beautifully composed environments or dioramas rendered within a modern game engine.

Professional Experience: A solid baseline of experience working within a professional video game development environment. Demonstrable experience in profiling, optimizing, and budgeting scenes and assets for modern hardware platforms to ensure flawless performance.

Software & Technical Expertise: Comprehensive mastery of 3D creation software. While knowledge of various industry‑standard tools is great, Blender is Rebellion’s preferred pipeline tool. Expert knowledge of Substance Painter, PBR (Physically Based Rendering) material workflows, and clean high‑to‑low poly baking routines. The ability to consistently construct clean, well‑optimized topology with precise game‑ready geometry and highly efficient, accurate texel density.

Artistic & Personal Skills: A deeply refined eye for composition, architectural scale, real‑world proportion, and dramatic lighting. The maturity to present work professionally, pivot smoothly in the face of shifting production demands, and remain enthusiastic about learning new proprietary tools and workflows. A traditional fine art background is highly desirable and considered a major plus, though it is not an absolute requirement.

Benefits: We offer an industry‑leading benefits package designed to support your life both inside and outside the studio:

  • Generous Paid Time Off: 22 days of annual leave, plus a dedicated Christmas studio closure (typically 4 days), alongside all standard UK Bank Holidays.
  • Health & Wellness: Premium Private Medical Insurance and a comprehensive healthcare cash plan that includes dental and vision coverage.
  • Financial Protection: Robust Life Assurance, Income Protection, and Critical Illness Cover to give you and your loved ones total peace of mind.
  • Family Support: Enhanced Family Leave policies to support you through life’s major milestones.
  • Financial Flexibility: Access to interest‑free, tax‑free loans for travel or personal needs, alongside an Enhanced Pension Scheme.
  • Mental Health Support: A dedicated Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) providing a wide array of mental health, wellness, and counseling resources.
  • Perks & Lifestyle: A massive selection of retail discounts, lifestyle freebies, and regular subsidised studio social events.

Relocation Support: Rebellion provides a comprehensive relocation assistance package, including moving logistics support, temporary local accommodation upon arrival, and dedicated guidance to help you settle into your new community.

Right to Work Statement: This specific position is strictly open to applicants who already possess the permanent right to work within the United Kingdom. Rebellion is unable to provide, sponsor, or take over visa sponsorship for this role, either now or at any point in the future. All applicants must be capable of demonstrating their ongoing, independent eligibility to work in the UK during the application phase.

If you are a talented environment artist looking to take the next major step in your career with an independent studio that values your balance, your health, and your creative voice, we want to hear from you. Apply today and help Rebellion build the future of interactive entertainment!
