The Role: 2D Artist / Compositor
As a Compositor (2D Artist) at Black Kite Studios, you are responsible for delivering creative excellence from the initial pitch through to the final delivery. You will work across a range of high-profile VFX projects, primarily focused on high-end commercials, though our slate often expands into TV and Film.
Key Responsibilities as Compositor (2D Artist):
- Creative & Technical Execution
- Seamless Integration: You will be responsible for the final “glue” of a shot, seamlessly integrating live-action plates with computer-generated (CG) elements, digital matte paintings, and FX layers.
- Look Development: You will work closely with VFX Supervisors to establish the visual “look” of a sequence, driving both the creative and technical approach for specific shots.
- Advanced Techniques: Your daily workflow will involve high-level 2D tracking, complex matte extraction (keying), layering, and precise color grading to ensure every element belongs in the same world.
- Collaborative Production
- Stakeholder Communication: You will collaborate and proactively communicate with the wider VFX team, including Producers and CG Leads, to ensure we deliver creative excellence on time and on budget.
- Feedback Implementation: You will interpret creative direction from clients and supervisors, translating their vision into polished, cinematic reality.
- Pipeline Contribution: We encourage artists to help refine our workflows. If you have a better way to solve a technical challenge, we want to hear it.
Required Qualifications & Skills for Compositor:
- Proven Track Record: You have a history of delivering outstanding VFX work, specifically within the fast-paced world of Commercials, High-end TV, or Film.
- Software Mastery: You possess a strong working knowledge of Nuke or Autodesk Flame. Familiarity with other industry-standard software and plugins is a major advantage.
