Located in the creative heart of Warrington, 10:10 Games was founded on the belief that the best games come from the happiest teams. We have moved away from industry norms of “burnout culture” and replaced them with sustainable, transparent, and empowering career pathways. We don’t just hire for the present; we invest in your future. Our studio features dedicated development pathways and internal promotion opportunities. You will have regular “progression catch-ups” with your manager, ensuring that your personal learning and development aspirations—whether that’s mastering a new engine or moving into leadership—are our prime focus.
We are an equal opportunity employer that treats every application with the same level of respect, regardless of age, disability, gender identity, race, ethnicity, or religion. Our passionate Outreach Programme sees us partnering with Women in Games, Grads in Games, and Into Games to open doors for underrepresented talent. When you join us, you’re joining a studio that values the unique perspective you bring to the table. We hate silos. To ensure everyone is aligned and heard, we hold fortnightly company-wide stand-ups and regular team check-ins. We genuinely care about your feedback and use it to steer the direction of our studio culture.
The Role:
As a Senior VFX Artist, you are a master of the “invisible art.” You understand how a well-timed explosion, a subtle environmental mist, or a high-impact character ability can transform a good game into a masterpiece. You will support multiple departments—Environment, Character, Gameplay, and Animation—producing high-quality VFX that match the studio’s ambitious vision. This role requires a blend of creative proactivity and technical leadership. You will be expected to solve complex pipeline issues, define best practices, and serve as a technical beacon for the rest of the Art team.
- World‑Class VFX Creation: Handle the entire lifecycle of environmental, character, and mechanic-related effects—from initial modeling and texture creation to final implementation and optimization within Unreal Engine 5 (Niagara).
- Pipeline Ownership: Take full responsibility for solving technical hurdles and streamlining the VFX pipeline. You will be the “go‑to” person for ensuring our effects are both breathtaking and performant.
- Style Stewardship: Work closely with the Art Director and Lead VFX Artist to ensure a consistent visual style across the entire project.
- Team Growth: A significant part of the “Senior” title at 10:10 Games involves mentoring junior and mid‑level artists. You will share your knowledge, provide constructive feedback, and help others elevate their craft.
- Training Assets: Create documentation and asset templates for training purposes, ensuring that the studio’s technical knowledge remains accessible and scalable as we grow.
- Collaboration: Liaise with Art, Design, Animation, and Code departments to fully understand the mechanical requirements of an effect and ensure its seamless integration into the gameplay loop.
- Research & Development: Proactively research new techniques and tools (e.g., fluid simulation, scripting) to keep 10:10 Games at the cutting edge of real‑time visual effects.
We need a Senior Artist who thrives on problem‑solving and has a deep‑seeded passion for the technical “crunch” of VFX.
Professional Experience:
- Minimum 3 Years Experience: Substantial professional experience in a VFX Artist role within the gaming industry.
- Proven Track Record: Preferably at least 3 shipped game titles credited as a VFX Artist, demonstrating your ability to navigate the complexities of a full production cycle.
Technical Mastery:
- Unreal Engine 5 & Niagara: Expert knowledge of Niagara is mandatory. You should be comfortable with complex logic, data interfaces, and optimizing heavy particle systems.
- Fluid Simulation: You must have excellent knowledge of high‑end simulators such as Niagara Fluids, EmberGen, or Houdini. We want artists who can bring cinematic‑quality fluid dynamics into a real‑time environment.
- DCC Tools: High proficiency in Autodesk Maya and 2D suites like Photoshop and After Effects.
- Technical Constraints: A sophisticated understanding of performance and memory budgets. You know how to achieve “the look” without breaking the frame rate.
Desired (But Not Essential):
- Scripting: Knowledge of MEL or Python scripting languages is a major plus, allowing you to build custom tools and automate repetitive tasks.
- Artistic Versatility: The ability to adapt your style from stylized/cartoonish to gritty realism, depending on the IP.
Location: Warrington, Cheshire. Our studio is strategically located in Warrington, offering the perfect middle ground between the bustling creative hubs of Manchester and Liverpool.
Commuting: Excellent rail and road links make it an easy commute from across the North West.
Lifestyle: Enjoy a vibrant local community with a lower cost of living than London, while still being minutes away from major metropolitan centers.
Benefits & Perks: Why Join 10:10?
- Zero Crunch Time: We respect your time. Our production schedules are designed to prevent the industry‑standard “crunch,” allowing you to stay creative without burning out.
- Hybrid Working: 3 days in the office for collaboration and 2 days remote for deep work.
- 33 Days Holiday: Including bank holidays, ensuring you have the time you need to recharge and spend with family.
- Health & Wellbeing: Comprehensive Private Health Insurance, an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), and long‑term illness cover are standard.
- Financial Future: An enhanced pension scheme and a company‑wide bonus scheme so that when the studio wins, you win too.
