Edinburgh Science Foundationis an educational charity that inspires people of all ages and backgrounds around the world to experience the wonder of science and technology. Best known for Edinburgh’s annual Science Festival – the world’s first science festival and still one of the world’s largest – and for our Learning programmes that seesGeneration Sciencetour Scotland and bring science to life in classrooms throughout the year and promotes STEM careers to teens through initiatives such asCareers Hive. An increasing worldwide element shares our content, passion and expertise more widely through an extensive portfolio of international projects.

About the Role

We are seeking interest and CVs from crew, technicians, and production staff with experience in preparation, installation, de-rig, and live operations within a festival and live event setting. As part of our network of contractors, you will support Edinburgh Science as we deliver our multi-disciplinary programme, including our flagship festival in April 2026 and our Generation Science schools touring program. Additional work is also available supporting the general operations of the organisation.

Our production departmentoperatesprimarilyfrom our warehouse; our base for developing,maintaining, and storing kit. Prior to events, we requireassistanceat the warehouse toprocure, audit, pack, and refurbish our stock. During the delivery of events our needs shift to installation, operation,maintenanceand de-rig of event equipment.

Our festival in 2026 consists of a large family-focused activation at the National Museum of Scotland incorporating interactive science, technology, engineering and maths workshops and exhibits. More activations of a similar nature will take place at other indoor and outdoor locations across the city. We also run a talks programme consisting of talks and presentations with a conventional conference-style setup.

About You

Our work spans many disciplines and requires people with multiple skill sets and backgrounds in roles including:

  • General stage and event crew
  • Lighting, audio and video equipment installation and operation
  • Carpentry-set and scenery construction and installation
  • Scenic artistry
  • Warehouse duties-auditing,maintenance, packing and preparation ofequipment, loading and unloading of vehicles

We have a strong preference for people with a multi-skilled background and the ability to adapt and take on various tasks and roles. We also are interested in other relevant disciplines not listed above. An interest in science and learning is appreciated.
