About The Role
We are seeking a site-based Senior Environmental Advisor to join our delivery team on a sewage treatment works project. You will support the Project Manager and Construction Team in ensuring environmental and sustainability requirements are implemented effectively during the extension of a live treatment works. You will help develop and implement the client’s carbon, environmental, and sustainability requirements, while monitoring the site to ensure effective environmental controls are in place. You will also support the design team in identifying carbon reduction opportunities and ensuring compliance with environmental design standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the lead contact for environmental matters, ensuring compliance and alignment with Thames Water and Ferrovial objectives.
- Prepare and maintain environmental documentation, including management plans for waste, dewatering, asbestos, and ecology.
- Coordinate site assessments with external consultants, including de-vegetation, biodiversity net gain (BNG), and ecological management.
- Coordinate permits and consents with Thames Water and relevant bodies, and manage relationships with regulatory, statutory, and third-party stakeholders.
- Carry out site inspections and internal audits, and support incident investigations by ensuring comprehensive evidence is collected.
- Manage the client’s carbon tool and work with designers, delivery teams, and supply chain partners to identify carbon reduction opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor environmental performance and prepare reports and briefings for the senior team, employees, and subcontractors.
- Work with the Project Manager to promote continuous improvement, innovation, and environmental best practice across the site team.
Qualification, skills and experience
We are looking for a Senior Advisor with:
- Experience in an environmental role
- Degree level (or equivalent) in an environmental/ecological or sustainability discipline
- Relevant professional membership in the environmental and sustainability field ISEP, CIWEM, CIWM, CIEEM or similar
- Knowledge of environmental consents and permits
- Familiarity with waste management including expertise in CL:AIRE COP
- Familiarity in PAS 2080, carbon assessments, and calculation tools
- Confident communicator, collaboratively working with clients, environmental bodies, and site teams
- CSCS Card
Desirable:
- Experience in water/wastewater, infrastructure, or utilities projects
- Knowledge of Thames Water procedures or standards
- Experience managing environmental consents, licenses, and permit applications
- Understand the legislative and policy relating to treatment of water, recycled water and sewage to achieve compliance with environmental regulatory requirements
- Familiarisation with environmental planning
The role will be based in Vauxhall for the first ~9 months. During this time, candidates must be able to travel to the Slough site regularly, typically once a week. Once construction begins, the role will be based full time in Slough.
