The HV Cable Engineer will lead the design delivery for Cable System Projects up to 400kV, for all stages of the project: FEED, Tendering, Detailed design to project handover. This role requires an understanding of electrical engineering principles, industry and relevant codes & standards, and regulatory requirements, cable technology and safety regulations, and to ensure the reliable and safe operation of HV cable infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing and/or reviewing HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
- Provide technical support to the design team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design, such as civil, structural, supply chain, etc.
- Perform and review technical calculations including cable size, spaceproofing, rating calculations, bonding schemes, TMF and EMF calculations, Sheath induced voltage calculations and others.
- Ensuring all project designs are compliant with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures.
- Assist with temporary works design schemes.
- Ensure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works.
- Ensuring correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved in the projects, attend, and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
- Identify potential risks, recommend corrective actions and mitigation measures.
Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
- Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
- Previous experience in a cable related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design.
- Experience in HV cable design, installation, or maintenance.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
- Previous experience in Cable Tunnel projects.
- Familiar with National Grid policies, procedures and technical standards.
- Familiarity with relevant cutting-edge engineering software.
