Job Description
The Ferrovial BAM Joint Venture (FBJV) is seeking an experienced Works Manager with a strong background in track installation for major UK projects. You will be responsible for the safe and timely execution of the works on site.
Your Mission
- Establish and promote best practice in health, safety, sustainability, cost, time, buildability and quality.
- Manage the design process to ensure solutions are safe, efficient to build, compliant with contract specification and delivered on schedule within budget.
- Promote use of engineering expertise and modern construction methods to add value to design development.
- Implement 3D design delivery strategy and deliver the project BIM Execution Plan (BEP) requirements.
- Provide input to internal, client and external engineering workshops and steering groups.
- Perform reviews of technical proposals.
- Maintain awareness of SHE hazards, demonstrate commitment to minimise risks.
- Manage design programme and report via programme updates, trackers & progress meetings.
- Obtain relevant documentation and approvals from relevant bodies and stakeholders.
- Interface with NR and other stakeholders as required.
- Provide expert guidance and technical support to HS2 and project teams, ensuring compliance with Works Information requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve design regarding safety, buildability, quality and best value solutions.
- Coordinate the whole design process, managing change and organising progress meetings.
- Prepare minutes, notes and reports for effective communication and accurate record‑keeping.
- Manage the document control process, supported by a document controller.
- Maintain professionalism with clients, contractors, suppliers and sub‑contractors.
- Lead and manage junior team members who report to this role.
Role Requirements
- Strong management skills with a positive and collaborative approach.
- Enthusiastic team player who can listen, understand, engage, motivate, and make confident decisions.
- Degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- Professionally qualified, preferably Chartered Engineer.
- Extensive experience in design and construction of ballasted and ballastless track, including resilient slab track.
- Experience in design and construction of switches and crossings.
- Experience managing interfaces between track systems and other railway systems.
- Knowledge of track design procedures and standards.
- Ability to work in a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment.
- Understanding of design office workflows and successful coordination experience.
- Commercial understanding of contracts, procurement routes and risk management.
- Good planning and collaborative skills.
- Thorough understanding of 3D design and BIM, and a desire to drive digital construction improvements.
- Excellent communication skills at personal, formal reporting and team levels.
- Practical experience harmonising design and quality requirements with buildability and strong problem‑solving ability.
