Job Description
The HV Cable Engineer will lead the design delivery for cable system projects up to 400kV, covering FEED, tendering, detailed design and handover. The role requires deep knowledge of electrical engineering principles, relevant codes and standards, and safety regulations for HV cable infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and review HV/EHV cabling system specifications, concepts, detailed designs, estimates, and provide site supervision support.
- Provide technical support to the design team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design, including civil, structural and supply chain integration.
- Perform and review technical calculations, including cable sizing, spaceproofing, rating calculations, bonding schemes, TMF and EMF calculations, and sheath‐induced voltage calculations.
- Ensure project designs comply with CDM regulations, legislation, and company procedures.
- Assist with temporary works design schemes.
- Ensure drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction.
- Coordinate interfaces with other engineering functions and attend internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
- Identify potential risks, recommend corrective actions and mitigation measures.
Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
- Previous experience with a consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
- Experience in a cable‐related role supporting FEED or detailed design.
- Experience in HV cable design, installation or maintenance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
- Previous experience in cable tunnel projects.
- Familiarity with National Grid policies, procedures and technical standards.
- Familiarity with cutting‐edge engineering software.
