We are now recruiting for a Design Project Manager to join the HS2 Track infrastructure project at the initial design phase which will run concurrently with the completion of main works contracts. You will be reporting to the track slab Design Delivery Director. This role is pivotal in ensuring the successful delivery of high-speed rail slab track projects, requiring strong project management capabilities.
Your mission as a Design Project Manager includes:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the Client on all design-related matters, ensuring clear, timely, and professional communication.
- Prepare and deliver regular progress reports and financial updates to the client and other stakeholders.
- Facilitate design reviews, technical assurance meetings, and progress meetings to keep the client informed and engaged.
- Administer design contracts in accordance with NEC principles, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and project requirements.
- Work closely with the commercial team to manage contract changes, compensation events, and early warnings, maintaining accurate records and documentation.
- Liaise with and facilitate communication between various design partners, commercial and planning teams to integrate those work streams.
- Support the resolution of contractual issues and disputes, ensuring fair and timely outcomes for all parties.
- Lead the design process for slab track systems, coordinating with internal teams, external partners, and suppliers.
- Ensure the design is progressing in line with the programme.
- Manage the designers’ budget alongside the Commercial team and ensure the project runs to budget.
- Manage the resolution of early warnings and compensation events.
- Prepare minutes, notes and reports as required to ensure effective communication and accurate records are maintained.
- Work closely with both clients and project teams to identify and mitigate risks.
Work location: London/Birmingham. Attend meetings with the broader design, integration and construction teams and client in Birmingham / London.
Minimum Requirements for the Position:
- Strong leadership and management skills, with a positive and collaborative approach.
- Enthusiastic team player, able to listen, understand, engage and motivate, and with confidence to make decisions when required.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts and their application in major infrastructure projects.
- Degree qualification in civil engineering or equivalent.
- Preferably experience in the design and/or engineering management of Railway Infrastructure.
- Preferably knowledge of HS2 processes and standards.
- Ability to work in a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment.
- A good commercial understanding of contracts, procurement routes and risk management.
- Excellent communication skills, both at the personal level and more formal reporting level.
- Maintaining a professional approach with clients and their professional teams, sub-contractors and suppliers.
