About the Role: We are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Team Manager to lead production operations across one or two lines at our Bristol site. This role sits one level below Production Manager and is ideal for either an experienced shift manager ready to step up, or a Production Manager from an adjacent manufacturing sector looking to establish themselves in a new environment. You will be responsible for the performance, safety, and people management of your lines across a two-shift operation, working closely with the site Production Manager, Engineering, and Quality teams.
Main Responsibilities:
- Take day-to-day operational responsibility for one to two production lines across a two-shift pattern
- Lead a team of team leaders and production operatives (typically 30–60 people per shift)
- Deliver line-level KPIs including OEE, waste percentage, labour efficiency, and safety metrics
- Drive continuous improvement activity using lean principles including 5S, Kaizen, and changeover reduction techniques
- Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation and site safety rules; conduct regular safety tours and toolbox talks
- Manage production scheduling in coordination with the site planning team
- Support NPI activity and line trials for new product introductions
- Conduct performance reviews, return-to-work interviews, and day-to-day people management for your team
- Escalate maintenance and quality issues through appropriate channels and lead root cause analysis on recurring problems
About You:
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role
- Demonstrated experience leading teams of 20 or more in a fast-paced, multi-shift production setting
- Practical working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles — 5S, Kaizen, OEE measurement, and waste reduction
- A track record of delivering against production KPIs including OEE and waste targets
- Strong people management skills with experience handling day-to-day HR matters including absence and performance
- Sound understanding of health and safety responsibilities in a manufacturing environment; IOSH Managing Safely qualification or equivalent is desirable
- Comfortable working with production scheduling and basic ERP/MES systems
Desirable:
- Experience in FMCG, food, automotive, or precision manufacturing
- Familiarity with BRC, ISO, or TS16949 quality management systems
- NEBOSH General Certificate
- HND, degree, or equivalent in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related discipline
- Experience supporting NPI or capital project activity
