You will ensure that all electrical installations, testing, and commissioning activities are completed safely, efficiently, within budget, in compliance with project specifications, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.You will also act as the primary point of contact between the shipyard and the electrical subcontractors, facilitating communication, coordinating activities, and resolving any issues that may arise.Subcontractor Management:Manage and coordinate the activities of electrical subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle, from pre-construction to commissioning and handoverEvaluate subcontractor capabilities, track their performance, and ensure they adhere to contractual obligationsMonitor subcontractor staffing levels, resource allocation, and productivity to maintain project schedulesProvide technical guidance and support to subcontractors, resolving any electrical issues or discrepanciesPlanning and Coordination:Collaborate with the project management team to develop detailed electrical installation plans, schedules, and work packagesCoordinate subcontractor activities with other trades and shipyard operations to ensure seamless integration and minimise disruptionsOrganize and lead regular meetings with subcontractors to review progress, address concerns, and coordinate upcoming workEnsure subcontractors have access to the latest drawings, specifications, and other relevant documentationQuality Control and Compliance:Oversee subcontractor compliance with all applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., IEC, NEC, Lloyds, MCA)Implement and enforce quality control procedures for electrical installations, ensuring that all work meets specified requirementsConduct regular inspections and audits of subcontractor work to verify quality and identify any non-conformitiesManage the resolution of any electrical deficiencies or punch list itemsSafety Management:Ensure subcontractors adhere to all shipyard safety regulations and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.Conduct regular safety meetings and toolbox talks with subcontractor personnel.Identify and mitigate any potential electrical hazards on the job site.Investigate any electrical incidents or accidents involving subcontractors and implement corrective actions.Cost Control and Reporting:Monitor subcontractor costs, including labour, materials, and equipment, and ensure that work is completed within budgetReview and approve subcontractor invoices and progress paymentsIdentify and manage any potential cost overruns or variationsPrepare regular progress reports for the project management team, including updates on subcontractor performance, schedule adherence, and cost statusDocumentation and Communication:Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all subcontractor activities, including daily reports, progress photos, and inspection reportsEstablish and maintain effective communication channels with subcontractors, the project management team, and other stakeholdersPrepare and submit regular progress reports to the project management teamManage all relevant documentationExperienceNational Vocation Qualification level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or a related fieldExtensive experience in electrical installation and construction, with a significant portion of that experience in a supervisory or management role, preferably in a shipbuilding environmentIn-depth knowledge of electrical systems, components, and installation methods used in shipbuildingFamiliarity with relevant electrical codes, standards, and regulationsStrong understanding of shipbuilding processes, terminology, and safety proceduresExcellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skillsProven ability to manage and coordinate subcontractors effectivelyStrong organisational, problem-solving, and time-management skillsProficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and specificationsAbility to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, demanding environmentFamiliarity with project management principles and practicesYou\โll receive a competitive benefits package and access to our Perk Box rewards scheme.Why Ferguson Marine?With 120 years of expertise, Ferguson Marine is proudly looking to the future.We plan to invest in modern technology and infrastructure that can deliver world-class vessels, fabrication and engineering services for centuries to come.This is a place where you\โll be able to make a real difference.
