About Fentics

Fentics is a Software as a Service (SaaS) company specialising in advanced insurance asset and liability modelling (ALM). Our cloud-native platform provides rapid, automated ALM across the entire balance sheet, so insurers and reinsurers can make strategic and tactical investment and risk decisions in real time. The platform has regulatory depth across Solvency UK / Solvency II and the Bermuda BSCR framework.

As our client base grows, we are adding senior capability to extend the platform, deliver client implementations and run managed ALM services.

The role

This is a senior, hands-on and client-facing role at the centre of the business, reporting to the co-founders. You will extend the Fentics ALM platform, take new insurer clients live, and help clients on our managed ALM service run better balance sheets. You will work with multiple insurer clients on a daily basis, alongside the co-founders and a small team of industry veterans, and help shape how AI is built into the platform.

If you have worked on an insurer's balance sheet from the inside, or covered insurers from a bank or asset manager, this work will feel familiar. The difference is the angle: instead of solving these problems for one balance sheet, or pitching solutions to insurers, you will build the engine that solves them for many, and work with their investment and ALM teams every day to use it.

What you'll do

  1. Build out the ALM engine
    • Add new asset classes, such as private credit, infrastructure debt or structured assets, defining how each is valued, projected and treated for capital and matching adjustment eligibility.
    • Extend coverage of liability types and functionality as client needs grow.
    • Turn regulatory rules (Solvency UK / Solvency II, the matching adjustment, Bermuda BSCR) into working model logic, and keep it current as the rules change.
    • Specify the methodology and, in a small team, often write the Python yourself.
  2. Take new clients live
    • Map a client's asset holdings, liability cashflows and assumptions into the platform.
    • Reconcile our results line by line against the client's existing models, and explain every material difference to the client.
    • Configure the platform to fit how each client works, such as asset allocation, internal ratings and portfolio constraints.
    • Write the implementation report that the client and our team sign off on.
  3. Be the expert clients turn to
    • Act as the day-to-day technical contact for several insurer clients at once, from their investment and ALM teams to their actuarial and risk functions.
    • Answer questions about their results, for example why their matching adjustment benefit moved, or why an asset attracts a given capital charge.
    • Find root causes, coordinate fixes, and strengthen data checks and testing so issues don't recur.
  4. Run ALM for clients
    • For clients using Fentics as their outsourced ALM function, produce regular balance sheet reporting and present it to their investment and risk teams.
    • Advise on how to improve their balance sheet, including strategic asset allocation optimisation, business planning projections, stress and scenario testing, and trade ideas.
  5. Shape how AI is used in ALM
    • Help design how AI works with the platform, so clients can ask complex questions and get answers on the spot. For example: "which trades improve our matching adjustment benefit without breaching our investment limits, at today's market prices?"
    • You don't need to be an AI specialist. What matters is domain judgement: knowing what a good answer looks like, and testing that the system gives one.
    • Breadth: working with multiple insurers, you will see more balance sheets, asset classes and regulatory regimes in a year than most people see in a career.
    • Impact: working directly with the co-founders and clients, your work goes straight into the product and into clients' investment decisions.
    • Ownership: equity participation means you share directly in the value you help create.

What weโ€™re looking for

  • 5 to 10 years' quantitative modelling experience at an insurance company, investment bank, asset manager or consulting firm, for example as an ALM or investment actuary, in capital modelling, insurance solutions, insurance portfolio management, or actuarial or investment consulting.
  • Experienced and comfortable in business modelling or coding.
  • Confident working directly with clients, with client-facing experience such as implementations, reconciliations or advisory work.
  • A degree in a numerical subject or a qualified actuary.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Highly advantageous:

  • Knowledge of Solvency UK / Solvency II, the matching adjustment or Bermuda BSCR.
  • Interest in applying AI to quantitative and financial modelling.

Compensation and benefits

  • Market-competitive base salary, reflecting experience and level.
  • Annual bonus, including equity participation in the business.
  • Equity participation is subject to the terms of the Company's share / EMI scheme and shareholder arrangements in force at the time.
