Fenland District Council is offering an exciting opportunity to join our Environmental Services team as an Apprentice Workshop Technician. Through this structured 3 year apprenticeship programme, you will develop the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to become a qualified Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Technician while working alongside experienced professionals in a busy workshop environment.

As part of your development, you will also have the opportunity to undertake HGV driver training, helping you build a broad range of skills to support your future career.

About the Role

Working within our established workshop team, you will learn how to inspect, service, maintain, diagnose, and repair a wide variety of vehicles, plant, and equipment, including:

  • Heavy and light goods vehicles
  • Refuse collection vehicles
  • Sweepers
  • Vans
  • Plant and machinery
  • Sewage treatment works and pumping station equipment

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will gain practical experience while studying towards a recognised qualification and attending college one day per week.

You will develop skills in:

  • Vehicle servicing and repairs
  • Fault finding and diagnostics
  • Planned and preventative maintenance
  • Vehicle inspections and compliance checks
  • Safe working practices and workshop procedures
  • Customer service and teamwork

By the end of the programme, you will have gained valuable technical expertise and a strong foundation for a rewarding career in vehicle maintenance and engineering.

Essential Requirements

  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above in English and Mathematics (or equivalent)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and workshop practices to Level 2/3
  • Commitment to attending college one day per week throughout the apprenticeship
  • Ability to work safely and follow health and safety procedures
  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • Right to work in the UK
