We are seeking an ambitious and visionary Finance Manager to lead our financial operations and become an integral part of our team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for overseeing comprehensive financial reporting, ensuring compliance, and contributing to strategic financial planning that supports the organisation\’s growth and development.

A key aspect of this position is effective team leadership—managing, inspiring, and supporting the finance team while fostering a collaborative environment that encourages professional growth and open communication. You will also work closely with relevant Partners to address various financial matters and support decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for a range of critical functions, including:

  1. Financial Reporting: Prepare and present monthly reports, submit quarterly management accounts, provide financial information for bids, and generate consolidated management accounts.
  2. Month-End and Reconciliations: Oversee month-end processes, manage reconciliations, manage the CAF account, and update the Partner Handbook.
  3. Tax Management: Oversee and prepare VAT returns and assist with corporate tax computations, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  4. Cash Flow Management: Develop cash flow forecasts and manage currency conversions.
  5. Forecasts and Planning: Lead budget preparations and provide financial scenario planning to suit changing business needs, support the project progress reporting procedures, and establish the WiP implications into monthly accounts.
  6. Payroll and Compensation: Perform payroll checks, calculate and implement profit share calculations, and reconcile member remuneration prior to partnership tax returns.
  7. Audit and Compliance: Manage year-end processes and coordinate audits and deliverables. Assist with international project inquiries, including tax and procedural requirements.
  8. Accounts Receivable and Payable: Oversee accounts receivable and payable functions, ensuring financial accuracy.
  9. Banking and Financial Management: Oversee all bank accounts and transactions, manage PCL setup and exit payments, serve as a primary contact for HMRC.
  10. Communication and Support: Act as the main contact for auditors, accountants, tax matters, and partners and provide essential support to the finance team and assist the managing Partner when needed.
  11. Regulatory Compliance: Stay current on financial regulations, manage PII claims, and submit required financial data, provide data for annual benchmarking and surveys.
  12. R+D Tax Credits: Support the collation of R+D Tax credit information, assist with R&D Tax claims.
  13. Team Management: Lead and develop the finance team, ensuring a collaborative working environment.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  1. ACCA qualified with a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience
  2. Proven experience in a design-based practice environment
  3. Strong team leadership & organizational skills
  4. Confident written and verbal communication demonstrating critical thinking skills
  5. An open, proactive & hands-on management style
  6. An ambition to contribute to the development of a dynamic business
  7. Experience in financial forecasting and strategic planning.
  8. Familiarity with financial regulations and compliance in the creative industries, particularly architecture.

Software:

Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Sage200, Timemaster (training will be given)

Hours: 9.00am – 5.30pm Monday to Friday (with an unpaid hour for lunch). Based in Bath, with occasional travel to our other studios in London and Manchester. Office-based initially to support with handover/onboarding with a move to hybrid working a minimum of 3 days a week in the office.
