Contract Type: Fixed term maternity cover until December 2026
Working Pattern: Part time, 3 days per week (Wednesday to Friday)
Job Purpose: To carry out defined tasks in the microbiological and chemical analytical laboratories in accordance with specified procedures.
Qualification Requirements: 5A*-C including Maths, English and Science

Areas of Responsibility:
- To work alongside colleagues according to the ‘Ground Rules for the Feedwater Laboratory Team’
- To abide by the ‘Feedwater Laboratory Rules’ (especially regarding Health and Safety, Time Keeping, and Sickness notification)
- To ensure your workspace is kept in a clean and tidy condition and that laboratory house-keeping rules, and dress code are adhered to at all times.
- To carry out microbiological and chemical testing of clients’ and in-house samples on time and in accordance with the approved methods
- To carry out quality control testing of raw materials and finished products on time and in accordance with the approved methods (following training and commensurate with your level of expertise).
- To ensure for your work all necessary records and samples are kept.
- To prioritise analytical work to ensure that it is carried out in the appropriate time frame.
- To provide information to field staff/clients (commensurate with your level of expertise).
- To undertake all additional tasks as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.
- To undertake occasional weekend/bank holiday work, as requested; this will be on a rota.
Key Result Areas:
- All the days essential work to be completed prior to leaving.
- All results to be of appropriate accuracy and interpretation.
- All results to be reported within relevant time period.
- Zero errors in quality control records.
- Equipment calibration in accordance with methods.
- Full compliance with the UKAS standard for microbiological analysis at all times.
Maintaining confidentiality and impartiality:
The receipt of samples, analysis of data and results generated are all confidential. Details of samples received, and the associated results must only be divulged to specified customers and staff who have a direct and legitimate interest in those results. Guidance is given in GAMD02. Staff are not permitted to hold any direct pecuniary interest in the analysis of samples and must analyse all samples free from the influence of third parties. This includes customers and Feedwater colleagues. Any attempt to influence the outcome of a test or tests should be reported to The Technical Manager and/or Managing Director.
