The Operations Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing plant and equipment for our Dartford station, ensuring all machinery and sortation equipment is serviced to recognised standards and scheduled preventive maintenance, minimising downtime and maintaining efficient operational performance.
Responsibilities:
- Organise team maintenance and required equipment to complete maintenance safely and within required timeframes.
- Monitor staff attendance and take relevant remedial action as required.
- Monitor the performance of the maintenance team through continual supervision and completion of all required documentation.
- Track workflow, identify potential problems and take immediate corrective action through delegation, personal action, or escalation.
- Maintain effective liaison with Depot and Operations Managers, Section Leaders and Control Room to resolve difficulties and enquiries.
- Ensure smooth transition of traffic across the machine, complying with Health and Safety.
- Complete all required information recording sheets accurately and on a nightly basis.
- Adhere to the Group Operations Manual and all operational and maintenance procedures to maintain required customer service levels.
- Ensure equipment is returned to its designated area after use, maintained safely and an adequate system for reporting defective equipment is in use.
Qualifications:
- Self‑motivated and organised.
- City and Guilds Electrical/Mechanical engineering qualification.
- Knowledge of 16th or 17th Edition electrical regulations.
- Proven electrical and mechanical maintenance background.
- Ability to read electrical schematic drawings.
- Understanding of PLC‑controlled equipment.
- Flexible approach to shift patterns.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation.
- Full driving licence.
Salary & Benefits:
Base pay £24.94 per hour, with twilight and night premia for hours between 7 pm – 10 pm and 10 pm – 6 am. Overtime is paid after 40 hours worked per week. A 30‑minute lunch break is unpaid. Shift pattern: Monday to Friday, rolling three‑week pattern of days (06:00 – 14:30), afternoons (14:00 – 22:30) and nights (22:00 – 06:30).
