As a Technical Project Lead, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of complex medical device development programmes, with a particular focus on drug delivery systems. You will lead multidisciplinary teams from early concept through to commercialisation, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the highest technical and regulatory standards. This is a hands-on leadership role based in Glasgow. You will combine strong technical understanding with clear decision-making and structured processes.
What you will be Responsible for:
- Leading end-to-end medical device development projects, from concept through to verification, validation, and transfer to manufacture
- Acting as the primary point of contact for clients, building trusted, professional relationships
- Defining and managing project scope, timelines, budgets, and resources
- Coordinating multidisciplinary teams across mechanical, electronics, software, and industrial design
- Driving technical decision-making, ensuring solutions are robust, practical, and aligned with project goals
- Ensuring adherence to design controls, quality systems, and regulatory requirements
- Identifying, managing, and mitigating technical and project risks
- Leading design reviews and maintaining clear, structured project communication
- Supporting business development activities, including proposals and technical input to new opportunities
Background of the Ideal Candidate:
- Medical Device Development Experience
- 5–10+ years’ experience in medical device design and development
- Proven track record of leading projects from concept through to commercialisation
- Experience working on drug delivery systems (e.g., autoinjectors, inhalers, wearable delivery) is strongly preferred
- Project & Delivery Leadership
- Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary teams across engineering and design
- Ownership of project scope, timelines, budgets, and resources
- Experience delivering projects in a consultancy or agency environment, or similarly fast-paced setting
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams and prioritise effectively
- Technical Background
- Solid engineering foundation (mechanical, biomedical, or related discipline)
- Experience contributing to or leading technical decision-making
- Good understanding of product development processes, including prototyping, testing, and iteration
- Regulated Environment Experience
- Hands-on experience working within regulated product development frameworks
- Strong understanding of design controls, including requirements management, traceability, and V&V
- Experience applying risk management in line with ISO 14971
- Familiarity with quality management systems such as ISO 13485
- Client-Facing Experience
- Experience working directly with clients or stakeholders, ideally as a primary point of contact
- Comfortable presenting progress, managing expectations, and handling challenges professionally
- Experience supporting proposals or contributing to new business opportunities is beneficial
