FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Delivery Manager to work for our client within the transport sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in Manchester.
Our client is seeking a Senior Delivery Manager to join their dynamic team. This is a critical leadership role for someone who thrives in complex, fast-paced environments and is committed to enabling high-performing teams and delivering exceptional results across a major product area or business function.
As a Senior Delivery Manager, you\’ll take ownership of the end-to-end delivery of complex programmes and services. You\’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams—including engineering, product, UX, research, and policy—to ensure alignment on strategy and priorities. Your role will span delivery leadership, financial accountability, stakeholder management, and continuous improvement, all while fostering a culture of collaboration and agility. This is more than a delivery oversight role—it\’s a strategic position that will shape how they build, deliver, and scale innovative services.
Responsibilities
- Shape and maintain a forward-looking delivery roadmap aligned with business priorities
- Lead the full delivery lifecycle from discovery through to delivery and iteration, ensuring high-quality outcomes
- Build strong, trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, Product Owners, and technical teams to drive alignment and decision-making
- Champion delivery best practices and support teams in enhancing ways of working, sharing insights, and embedding standards
- Define, track, and act upon key performance indicators to monitor delivery health and inform decision-making
- Own programme budgets, ensuring accurate forecasting, financial accountability, and value for money
- Partner with business and technology teams to ensure smooth service launches that deliver tangible value
- Lead agile ceremonies across multiple initiatives, coach teams on agile principles, and ensure consistent delivery rhythms
- Proactively identify and resolve key blockers, removing impediments to progress and facilitating clear pathways to success
- Lead the creation and evolution of business cases throughout the project lifecycle, embedding strategic alignment and best practices
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years\’ experience leading the delivery of complex digital services or programmes in cross-functional environments
- Skilled in applying and adapting delivery methodologies (Waterfall ideally) to suit specific contexts and drive outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to lead delivery teams, manage stakeholders, and set the pace for strategic initiatives
- Comfortable with change and experimentation, able to pivot when necessary while maintaining focus on long-term goals
- Deep experience across all phases of the product or service lifecycle, with a strong grasp of associated governance and engagement needs
- Adept at working across multiple teams and functions to ensure coordinated delivery and shared accountability
- Proficient in managing budgets, monitoring spend, and ensuring financial performance aligns with delivery objectives
- Skilled in designing and leading collaborative workshops that drive consensus and clear outcomes
- Uses data and metrics to drive performance, set expectations, and monitor delivery health
- Relevant certifications such as SAFe, Scrum Master, AgilePM, or PRINCE2
- Experience working in regulated environments or within the public sector is desirable
- Background in software development, operations, UX, or policy is a plus
