About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a DevOps Engineer to work for our global Systems Integrator client. This is initially a 6-month contract with very good prospects to extend.

Our client is seeking a Tech SRE/DevOps Engineer to join their Innovation and Digital team, driving the reliability, scalability, and performance of their expanding digital product portfolio. This is a hands-on technical role where you'll enhance infrastructure-as-code practices, automate CI/CD pipelines, and ensure systems run at peak efficiency.

You'll operate at the intersection of development and operations, applying deep technical expertise and creative problem-solving to elevate operational excellence. Responsibilities:

  • Technical Innovation & Architecture
    • Design and implement scalable, highly available systems in collaboration with infrastructure and development teams
    • Innovate and evolve our Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using Azure Pipelines, with Bicep, and Terraform
    • Drive continuous improvement of CI/CD processes and deployment automation
    • Architect monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively identify and resolve system issues
  • DevOps Excellence
    • Develop creative automation tools and processes to minimise manual operations
    • Conduct thorough root cause analysis and implement innovative preventive solutions
    • Design and maintain disaster recovery plans and procedures
    • Champion DevOps and Agile methodologies through technical thought leadership
  • Collaboration & Technical Influence
    • Partner closely with development teams, IT Security, Business Product Owners, and Architecture teams
    • Share technical expertise and best practices with engineering teams
    • Contribute to technical discussions and solution design
    • Translate complex technical concepts for diverse stakeholders
  • Standards & Technical Excellence
    • Contribute to deployment and operational standards aligned with ISO27001 and ITIL
    • Contribute and Participate in CI/CD and IaC code reviews and processes to ensure quality and knowledge sharing
    • Participate in Change Advisory Board meetings
    • Deploy and manage microservices on Azure App Services and Kubernetes with focus on security
    • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation standards

About You

  • Experience in systems administration, software development, or network engineering
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Azure cloud platform
  • Strong knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Kubernetes)
  • Hands-on expertise with DevOps tools: Git, Docker, Jenkins, Terraform, Bicep
  • Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines (Azure Pipelines or similar)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code practices and implementation
  • Strong understanding of networking, security, and system administration

Technical Skills

  • Azure monitoring and Application Insights
  • ARM/Bicep templates and JSON scripting
  • PowerShell scripting
  • Software development methodologies and practices
  • Security best practices and risk management

Technical Skills & Innovation

  • Ability to monitor system performance, availability, and reliability using observability tools
  • Proven ability to work in Agile/DevOps environments
  • Experience with Agile ceremonies (daily scrums, retrospectives, sprint planning)
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and comfort with ambiguity
  • Excellent communication and technical documentation skills
  • Ability to build cross-functional relationships
  • Passion for continuous improvement and technical innovation
