FDL Generators is expanding and we’re looking for an experienced Service Engineer to join our strong 50-year operating team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineer who enjoys variety, autonomy and solving complex technical challenges. You’ll be working on a range of standby generators and generator systems across commercial, industrial, healthcare, retail and critical infrastructure environments.

About FDL Generators: FDL Generators provides nationwide generator maintenance, emergency response, load bank testing, fuel systems support and standby power solutions to some of the UK’s leading organisations. Our engineers are trusted to work independently, solve problems on-site and deliver exceptional service to clients operating critical infrastructure where reliability matters.

The Role: Midlands‑based Service Engineer to support our growing customer portfolio across the Midlands, Northern England and Scotland with occasional nationwide travel. The role involves:

  • Planned preventative maintenance of standby generators and associated equipment
  • Reactive breakdown attendance and fault diagnosis
  • Load bank testing and commissioning activities
  • Fuel system inspections and associated plant maintenance
  • Customer liaison and technical reporting
  • Participation in the out‑of‑hours call‑out rota

What We’re Looking For: We’re interested in engineers who can think independently, troubleshoot effectively and take ownership of issues through to resolution. Ideally you will have:

  • Strong electrical and mechanical fault‑finding skills
  • Knowledge of generator control systems
  • Experience with major engine manufacturers such as Perkins, Cummins, Volvo, MTU, Scania, Caterpillar or Baudouin
  • Understanding of alternators, switchgear and associated standby generator systems
  • Good communication and customer‑facing skills
  • A proactive and flexible approach to work
  • Full UK driving licence
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Whilst not essential, experience with any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Fuel polishing systems
  • Data centre or critical environment experience
