FD Recruit is partnering with a life sciences business operating across the UK and Ireland to engage an interim Group Financial Controller. The position is for an initial 3 months and we are considering candidates on both a limited company, day rate and fixed term contract basis. The role would suit a Financial Controller or Finance Director with experience in multi-entity, multi-country businesses; experience in the life sciences sector is desirable.
The FC will be required on site for at least 3 days per week and will have the following responsibilities:
- Provide governance and oversight of the finance function, with roughly 6 direct reports, site level Financial Controllers and a wider team of approximately 23.
- Oversee the financials across a multi-site, multi-entity portfolio spanning the UK and Ireland with group turnover of approximately £150M.
- Manage consolidation, pulling results from disparate systems into a single, coherent group format.
- Provide oversight of upcoming month-ends, quarter-ends and audits run locally at site level, but needing senior governance.
- Identify process improvements, synergies and efficiencies, and flag areas of concern.
- Provide technical oversight and review as well as translating numbers into strategic insight and providing analysis and recommendations to the CFO.
- Maintain good order and financial management throughout the interim engagement.
Skills/experience required:
- Experience as a Senior Financial Controller or hands-on Finance Director level, with genuine depth of experience.
- Strong multi-site, multi-entity background, ideally from a buy-and-build/acquisitive environment.
- Comfortable working across a fragmented setup with disparate systems and processes.
- Agile and self-sufficient, able to collate inconsistent data sources and present them in one consistent format.
- Able to translate between the technical detail and the strategic picture.
- Sector experience is not essential but would be a distinct advantage.
- Multi-site experience required.
