Accountancy Recruit (part of the FD Recruit family) are working exclusively with a Property Investment organisation that is continuing on an exciting growth curve and is highly regarded in the marketplace. An opportunity has arisen for a permanent, full or part-time (min 28 hours per week), Finance Manager/Head of Finance based near Ashford in Kent, to manage all of the accounting and financial reporting for the business. My client requires a hands-on finance professional to provide finance, accounting and some commercial support across the organisation. Reporting to the Finance Director, with a dotted line to the Managing Director this is a critical role to ensure the smooth running of the business and helping to ensure its continued growth, stability and excellent reputation.

Key duties will encompass:

  • To ensure that the accounting transactions of the business are timely and accurately recorded with emphasis on control accounts and analysis of income and expenditure.
  • Sales Ledger: Calculation and production of sales invoices and amendments and distribution to customers. Recording sales receipts and managing the collection of any outstanding debts via appropriate credit control measures. Invoices include rent demands, service charges, insurance and other recharges recoverable from tenants. Prepare and maintain schedules of forthcoming reviews of rent, lease expiry dates and break clauses where these cannot be obtained via the Key software.
  • Purchase Ledger: Obtain and manage the costs of the business and ensuring invoices are appropriately authorised, coded, recorded and paid on the accounting software. Posting costs to the correct analysis code is important for the accuracy of financial reporting and management. Prepare the Dividend payment run to shareholders 2 per annum. Maintain the Service Charge accounts for various properties. Calculate and invoice any recharges to tenants for utility charges and other costs. Prepare quarterly journals and analysis so that quarterly management accounts can be prepared working with the Financial Director and external VAT specialist. Prepare the bank reconciliations and other control accounts at least monthly. To correctly record VAT input and output charges requesting assistance if needed for unusual items. Account for tenant Rent Deposits and ensure funds are separately accounted for with any interest accruing added to those deposits. Account for any income or payments relating to Shareholders as detailed in the Shareholder section. Provide the information required by the Companyโ€™s appointed auditor in a timely way. Ensure that day to day enquiries and issues arising in the office by telephone, correspondence, email, fax or other forms of communication are allocated to the correct person to deal with them. Provide information as requested for the annual insurance renewal. Review terms and valuations for accuracy. Incorporate revised reinstatement values reassessed by professional advisors at regular intervals (usually every five years) and administer agreed indexation in the intervening years.

About you:

  • AAT Qualified/QBE, or ACA/ACCA or CIMA Part Qualified, accountant with 3 years experience in a similar role.
  • Proven previous experience working in a similar role in a related property sector would be advantageous.
  • The ability to translate financial information into meaningful management data.
  • Extensive technical skill, especially with Excel and accounting software.
  • Good knowledge of UK VAT and dealing with HMRC.
  • Ambitious, keen to progress and proactive with a flexible approach to work and strong organisational and prioritisation capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, work under pressure and balance multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work well under pressure both as part of the team and on own initiative.
  • Willingness to be involved in the wider business and the ability to work well under own initiative.
