FD Recruit Careers

FD Recruit is partnering with a client in East Yorkshire to engage a portfolio Finance Director. This is a fractional engagement initially to conduct a review of an owner managed business with potential ongoing part time support for a few days per month. Our client is a well-established, owner-managed business providing specialist engineering services for project delivery. There will be a requirement to meet onsite initially and then move to a remote model.

The company has recently opened a European subsidiary to support expansion into EU project work, and is looking for a portfolio FD to partner with the owners and provide strategic guidance on managing sustainable growth.

The portfolio FD will have the following responsibilities:

  • Conduct an initial review/audit of both the current finance function, processes, and reporting, and the business as a whole, providing recommendations.
  • Provide strategic financial leadership and act as a trusted advisor to the business owners.
  • Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts and financial planning tools.
  • Introduce or improve KPI reporting and analysis to track profitability, utilisation, cost, and margin by engineer/project.
  • Advise on the financial and tax implications of operating through multiple international entities, including guidance on optimal allocation of work between jurisdictions.
  • Support the business in managing limited forward sales visibility through robust financial planning.
  • Provide oversight and mentoring to the existing internal finance/admin team.
  • Identify opportunities and risks and advise the leadership team accordingly.

To be successful in this engagement the FD should have the following experience:

  • Proven experience operating at Finance Director level, ideally on a fractional/portfolio basis.
  • Background in engineering, manufacturing, or a related labour/project-based sector strongly preferred.
  • Comfortable working closely with owner-managers in a business that has not previously had in-house FD-level support.
  • Experience advising on international group structures/subsidiaries is advantageous, though not essential.
  • Strong cash flow forecasting and financial modelling skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate financial analysis into clear, practical strategic guidance.

The rate advertised for this engagement is a guidline and the rate offered wil be commensurate with experience.
