Position Post: Health Care Assistant, Morecambe Urgent Treatment Centre

Operating Hours: 7 days a week, 08:00‑20:00, 365 days a year.

Working Pattern: 4‑week rolling rota. 11.5‑ and 7.5‑hour shifts. Flexibility required for sickness and annual leave cover.

Pay: £13.26 per hour plus Saturday/Sunday and bank holiday enhancements.

Primary Duties:

  • Clinical duties: venepuncture, ECGs, wound care, observations, plaster of Paris application and personal care.
  • Administrative, reception/floor‑walker and housekeeping duties.
  • Maintain good communication, record clinical interventions and use ADASTRA.
  • Support infection control, dispose of clinical waste safely, initiate emergency action and handle specimen dispatch.
  • Assist with ordering and supplying materials and equipment.
  • Notify the Nurse in Charge of any incidents.

Qualifications & Training:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care (minimum); willing to be upskilled to Level 3 or an UCA Health Care Assistant.
  • Shadowing/training will be provided.
  • Familiarity with clinical computer systems and ADASTRA preferred.

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Strong organisational and prioritising skills.
  • Good written and oral communication.
  • Basic IT skills and knowledge of ADASTRA.

  • Enthusiastic and committed about the role.
  • Flexible and willing to work unsocial hours (7 days, 08:00‑20:00).
  • Willing to participate in ongoing training.

Experience:

  • Health care work experience.
  • Experience dealing with the general public.
  • Recording ECGs, wound care, venepuncture and plaster of Paris application.
  • Experience in GP practice or urgent care environment.
