As a Senior Engineering Design Manager at FCC Environment, you will lead the civil and M&E engineering design disciplines within the Engineering & Construction (E&C) Department. This is a vital role that combines technical excellence, leadership, and a strong focus on safety and innovation. You will manage internal teams and external consultants to deliver sustainable, safe, and cost-effective design solutions that support our core business operations. As part of your professional development, FCC Environment will cover the cost of professional membership fees (MICE, PMP or similar).
This vacancy is for a full-time position, working five days per week.

What will you be doing?
- Lead and manage the civil and structural design team within the E&C Department
- Ensure all design work complies with CDM 2015, safety regulations, and environmental standards
- Conduct and lead design risk assessments, embedding safety, constructability and operability at all stages
- Provide technical leadership and assurance across reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, and BoQs
- Interface with stakeholders including Bidding, Operations, SHEQ, and Estates to develop integrated design solutions
- Oversee and manage external design consultants for value, quality and compliance
- Promote innovation, carbon reduction and sustainability in early design stages
- Maintain strong links with regulatory and industry bodies to support best practices
What are we looking for?
- A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (MSc/MEng preferred)
- Chartered membership of ICE, IStructE or a similar institution
- Proven experience in civil and structural engineering and design management, ideally in waste management or similar industries
- Project management qualifications (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP) and NEBOSH Construction Certificate are desirable
- Strong analytical, organisational and decision-making abilities
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Willingness to travel regularly to project sites and FCCE facilities across the UK
