As an Operations Chemist at FCC Environment, you will be responsible for the chemical and physical testing of wastes received for treatment or transfer, along with associated residues and process control samples. You will also complete and maintain waste consignment and laboratory records to ensure compliance and accuracy.

This vacancy is for a full-time position, working 5 days per week.

What will you be doing?

  • Inspecting and testing wastes prior to and on receipt to confirm suitability for acceptance
  • Undertaking laboratory-based waste trials using instrumental and wet chemistry methods
  • Carrying out waste analyses using a range of techniques
  • Identifying appropriate safety and processing methods for handling waste
  • Maintaining quality control processes to ensure accurate waste assessments
  • Completing and verifying waste consignment documentation
  • Maintaining accurate laboratory and waste records
  • Supporting training and mentoring of new starters where required

What are we looking for?

  • Degree in Chemistry (or similar) or minimum HND in Chemistry or related subject
  • Experience of waste, wastewater or water analysis using spectrophotometric methods
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste classification and consignment systems (desirable)
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a small team
  • Strong communication skills and confidence liaising with stakeholders
  • Flexible approach to work, including overtime when required
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to use initiative
