Senior enough to build the department. Hands‑on enough to launch the product.

FBED Labs is building a new generation of commercial intelligence software.

We're moving from a profitable, founder‑led company into a scalable software business — and we're now building the senior leadership team that will take our product, Cascade, from launch‑ready to launched, adopted and scaled.

We're hiring a VP Engineering to build and lead our engineering function through a defining stage of growth.

You'll work directly with our CEO, COO and leadership team to bring Cascade to market, strengthen the product's technical foundations, and build the engineering team around what the company needs next.

The right person operates at both levels: close enough to the work to understand architecture, delivery and technical risk; senior enough to build the department, hire the team, and lead engineering through scale.

What you'll do

  • Build and lead the engineering function as we launch and scale our products
  • Lead technical delivery of Cascade and future FBED products
  • Set engineering standards across architecture, reliability, security and delivery
  • Recruit, assess and onboard high‑quality engineers
  • Support AI‑assisted and agent‑assisted development while maintaining quality
  • Improve infrastructure, data, observability and production readiness

What we're looking for

  • Led engineering in a high‑growth software, Saa S or technology company
  • Shipped complex B2B products used by real customers
  • Built or scaled engineering teams, with strong architectural judgment
  • Experience with AI, machine learning or data‑heavy/applied AI systems
  • Familiarity with modern AI development workflows, including agent‑assisted engineering
  • Comfort with systems‑heavy environments (Rust, Tokio or similar a plus)

This role is for you if you're senior enough to build the department and hands‑on enough to help launch the product — someone who enjoys the space between frontier technology and commercial execution, and can build structure without slowing the company down.

It's not for you if you only want to manage through layers or prefer joining a fully mature engineering organisation.

We need someone who can build the function, not just inherit it.

How to prepare for a job interview at FBED Labs

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If FBED Labs uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
