Are you an experienced compliance solicitor looking for a strategic role where you can make a real impact? We are seeking a highly motivated and commercially aware Deputy MLRO & HOLP to join our growing law firm.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced compliance professional to play a key role in supporting the firm's regulatory, governance and risk management framework, working closely with senior leadership to maintain the highest standards of professional conduct and compliance.
This role would suit a solicitor who enjoys problem-solving, influencing best practice, managing risk and supporting colleagues across a dynamic legal business.
The Opportunity
As Deputy MLRO & HOLP, you will provide day-to-day support to the firm's compliance function, helping to ensure adherence with the SRA Standards and Regulations, AML legislation and broader regulatory obligations.
You will work closely with senior stakeholders across the business, assisting with compliance monitoring, regulatory reporting, risk management and the continual development of the firm's governance framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as deputy support to the firm's HOLP, MLCO and MLRO.
- Assist with breach assessments, investigations and regulatory reporting.
- Support the firm's AML framework, including annual risk assessments, monitoring activities and policy reviews.
- Advise on AML compliance matters, client due diligence, source of funds and source of wealth enquiries.
- Support sanctions screening and financial crime prevention measures.
- Maintain risk registers and assist with complaints handling and compliance monitoring.
- Deliver compliance training and awareness programmes to legal and support teams.
- Produce compliance reports and management information for senior leadership.
- Act as a point of escalation for compliance, AML and regulatory queries.
- Draft, review and implement policies, procedures and guidance.
- Support internal audits, regulatory inspections and thematic reviews.
About You
You will be a UK qualified solicitor with a minimum of 5 years' PQE and a strong background in legal risk, compliance, governance or regulatory matters within a law firm environment.
You will possess:
- Strong knowledge of the SRA Standards and Regulations, Code of Conduct and Accounts Rules.
- Experience supporting compliance officers and managing regulatory obligations.
- Practical AML expertise, including client due diligence, source of funds/source of wealth investigations and sanctions compliance.
- Experience drafting and implementing policies and procedures.
- Experience supporting audits, regulatory inspections or thematic reviews.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The confidence to influence and challenge where required.
- Exceptional attention to detail and sound professional judgment.
- The ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.
