A well-established and highly regarded, multi-disciplinary main contractor is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to join its expanding commercial team due to continued growth across a portfolio of major building projects. Typically, schemes range from £10m through to £100m, offering exposure to large-scale, fast-paced developments within a structured and well-supported commercial environment.

Reporting into a Managing Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager, you will play a key role in delivering project success, working both independently and as part of a wider commercial and site team.

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for:

  • Managing the commercial performance of projects from pre-construction through to final account
  • Procuring and managing subcontractor packages, including tendering and negotiations
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate cost plans, budgets, and financial reports
  • Valuing works and ensuring timely applications and payments
  • Managing variations, change control, and contractual notices
  • Identifying commercial risks and implementing mitigation strategies
  • Working closely with site and project management teams to drive project performance
  • Supporting the Commercial Manager with reporting and overall project strategy

Quantity Surveyor Requirements:

  • Ideally degree qualified in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent industry experience)
  • Main Contractor background
  • Experience delivering projects within industrial, commercial, retail, or multi-room sectors (typically £10m)
  • Good understanding of JCT forms of contract
  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to manage project finances effectively
  • Confident communicator with strong negotiation skills
  • IT literate, with good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other standard packages

Other Desirable skills include:

  • Experience working on large-scale or fast-paced construction projects
  • Professional membership (MRICS/MCIOB or working towards chartership)
