A well-established residential housebuilder based in Portsmouth is seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial function across multiple housing developments. This is a senior role with responsibility for cost control, commercial strategy, and the management of a small commercial team.

The Role

As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will have full commercial responsibility for a portfolio of residential schemes from pre-construction through to final account. You will work closely with senior management, site teams, and external stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered profitably, on time, and in line with company objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overall commercial management of multiple residential developments
  • Leading, mentoring, and supporting Quantity Surveyors and/or Assistants
  • Preparing and managing budgets, cost plans, and cash flows
  • Procurement and management of subcontractor packages
  • Valuations, variations, and final accounts
  • Risk management and cost forecasting
  • Ensuring commercial compliance with company procedures and reporting requirements
  • Working closely with Construction, Technical, and Buying teams to drive value and cost efficiency

About You

  • Proven experience as a Managing or Senior Quantity Surveyor within residential housebuilding
  • Strong understanding of traditional and design & build contracts
  • Excellent commercial and contractual knowledge
  • Experience managing teams and multiple projects
  • Confident communicator with strong leadership skills
  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing to senior management decisions
