The role of an Estimator

A regional house builder is looking for an experienced Estimator for their site in West Yorkshire. The role will include the assembly of new land opportunities with the creation of complete cost appraisals.

You will be working with clear and detailed technical drawings for measurement take-off purposes. You will need to ensure that the completion of all budget cost appraisals is clear and assist in the assessment of viability prior to bid. Furthermore, all work must consist of regular updates, which will ensure the robustness of all appraisals.

Key duties

  • Develop and provide technical drawings and associated data.
  • Extract quantities from technical drawings to formulate precise budgets.
  • Maintain excellent communication and foster strong relationships with the Land, Technical, and Sales teams, ensuring a deep understanding of new developments and accurate appraisals.
  • Calculate and present build costs accurately.
  • Generate and provide precise build cost information for inclusion in appraisals.
  • Regularly update all build costs and various tracking information.
  • Calculate and present costs for roads, sewers, and any unusual expenses.
  • Produce accurate budget estimates from detailed measurements for proposed roads and sewers.
  • Collaborate closely with technical teams to ensure current information is available, including any enabling works and site setup expenses.
  • Create and deliver precise timeframes related to construction and sales estimated costs on-site.
  • Conduct land visits as necessary before any initial appraisal take-offs to better understand potential site constraints.

Keys Requirements

  • An ONC, HNC, or equivalent qualification is required, or relevant experience in the field.
  • A HND or degree is preferred.
  • Previous experience in the construction sector, particularly in residential building, is a plus.
  • Essential knowledge and skills are needed for the role.
  • Ability to work remotely is a requirement.
  • Strong communication and influencing abilities are essential.
  • High proficiency in numeracy is expected.
  • A comprehensive understanding of specifications and architectural drawings is necessary.
  • Familiarity with technical data, reports, and drawings is important.
  • Must be an effective communicator and possess a high level of motivation and resilience.
