Job Description
Development Engineer
A regional house builder have a requirement for a Development Engineer to join their Design & Technical team working across new build housing developments.
Reporting to the Technical Manager you will manage the engineering design process from land appraisal through to construction issue. You will be responsible for appointing appropriate consultants, agreeing fees in-line with budgets, liaising with statutory authorities, and ensuring that design sits within budget.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Advise the Land & Planning department on the technical viability of new sites.
- Brief and commission site investigations, topographical survey and other assessment reports on land acquired.
- Brief engineering consultants on the scope of design so that all parties are clear and working towards the same goal.
- Contribute to improving the business, protecting, and enhancing the reputation of the company, by putting forward new ideas and, when requested to do so, implementing change.
- Manage initial technical submissions for approval by statutory authorities (e.g. S104, S38, S278).
- Obtain planning permissions and other statutory approvals e.g. S104 and S38 Agreements.
- Liaise with external consultants, highway and sewer Inspectors along with Statutory Authority officials to secure the adoption of all site infrastructure.
- Assist in the production of layouts and technical report for Land Appraisals; and required working drawings and answer technical queries that may arise.
- Assist and guide the preparation of outline engineering schematics for Land Appraisals.
- Conduct initial negotiations / enquiries with statutory bodies on environmental, drainage, highways and other engineering issues when appraising land.
- Issue engineering information to all company departments.
- Conduct fee negotiation and appointment of consultants.
Skills and Experience required:
- Civil/Structural/Geotechnical related degree and experience within a consultancy and/or proven experience within housebuilder
- Experience with CAD, Microsoft software (excel/Word/PowerPoint), Site3D, Builderstorm and PDS preferrable but not essential as training can be provided
