A national house builder have a requirement for a Development Engineer to join their Technical team to oversee the infrastructure from construction through to adoptions for new build developments. Reporting to the Engineering Manager you will manage the engineering design process from land appraisal through to construction issue. You will be responsible for appointing appropriate consultants, agreeing fees in line with budgets, liaising with statutory authorities, and ensuring that design sits within budget.

Duties to include:

  • Ensure infrastructure works on new build developments are constructed in accordance with the drawings and specifications to an agreed programme
  • Oversee the laying out of open spaces and pay areas and ensure prompt handover to the management company
  • Assess technical viability of new sites
  • Assist in the production of layouts and technical reports for land appraisals and required working drawings
  • Brief and commission site investigations, topographical surveys and other assessment reports
  • Brief engineering consultants on scope of design
  • Work with the in-house design team to ensure timely initial technical submissions are made for approval by statutory authorities (S104, S38, S278)
  • Assist with engineering information to commercial, construction and sales department
  • Take the lead in fee negotiation and the appointment of consultants
  • Assist with the statutory approvals e.g. S140 and S38 agreements
  • Assist with the initial stage of infrastructure delivery on new sites, including services and diversions/disconnections
  • Support the site team with technical queries
  • Assist the commercial team in issuing tender drawings to contractors, assessing them on return
  • Work in a team of Engineers and Architects to deliver schemes in a cost-effective manner and on programme from viability to adoption by statutory bodies.

Self-motivated, ability to multi-task, meticulous attention to details, previous experience of engineering designs, team player, good knowledge of multi-utility service installations and service diversions.
