Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Senior Engineer to join a civils framework at Gatwick Airport. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and proactive Senior Engineer with a solid background in civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating engineering activities, overseeing setting‑out operations and ensuring construction works are delivered safely, accurately and in accordance with project specifications, drawings and programme requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate day‑to‑day site engineering activities across civil engineering and infrastructure works.
- Oversee setting out, surveying and dimensional control to ensure works are delivered in line with approved drawings and specifications.
- Review construction drawings, technical documentation and design information, identifying and resolving engineering issues.
- Support and coordinate Site Engineers, providing technical guidance and ensuring high standards of engineering delivery.
- Liaise with site management, subcontractors, design teams and other stakeholders to maintain progress and resolve technical queries.
- Ensure quality assurance procedures are followed, including inspections, ITPs, quality records and as‑built documentation.
- Monitor engineering progress against the construction programme and help identify potential delays or technical challenges.
- Ensure all works comply with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
- Maintain accurate survey records, site documentation and engineering reports.
- Assist with planning upcoming works, coordinating resources and ensuring engineering requirements are met.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a Senior Engineer role within civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Strong setting‑out and surveying skills.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and technical specifications.
- Experience managing engineering activities and supporting site teams.
- Strong understanding of quality assurance, site documentation and construction procedures.
- Excellent communication, coordination and problem‑solving skills.
- A proactive approach with the ability to work effectively in a demanding site environment.
- Previous experience on major infrastructure or airport projects would be advantageous.
