Estimator - Civil & Structural Specialist - South Bristol area My client is a Leading, National Civil and Structural Construction Company. They work on behalf of a multitude of prestigious clients which include Highways England, TFL, Network Rail, The Environment Agency and many more. Due to planned growth in the Southwestern Division, they are currently looking to recruit, on a permanent basis an Estimator to join their existing team. At this time they would consider an established Estimator or a Civil / Structural Engineer with several years of experience in the Construction Industry. A civil engineering estimator calculates the probable costs of infrastructure, groundworks, and heavy construction projects to prepare competitive bids and tenders. Core Responsibilities Tender Preparation: Analyse engineering drawings, plans, and specifications to calculate total project expenses. Cost Analysis: Forecast costs for materials, heavy machinery, site labour, and transport. Subcontractor Management: Obtain, review, and compare quotes from suppliers and specialist civil contractors. Risk Assessment: Identify commercial risks, site constraints (such as soil stability or drainage), and value engineering options. Handover Support: Work with project delivery teams to ensure a smooth transition from winning the bid to on-site execution. Key Skills & Requirements Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of civil engineering methods, groundworks, structural concrete, and drainage. Numeracy & Analysis: Advanced mathematical skills and high attention to detail to prevent costly errors. Software Proficiency: Expert use of Excel and industry-specific estimating software. Communication: Negotiation abilities when dealing with clients, suppliers, and internal teams. Qualifications & Entry Routes Education: A degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Construction Management. Experience: Previous experience in site engineering, surveying, or junior estimating. Certification: Professional recognition through bodies like the supports career advancement.
