A growing and established construction business is looking to appoint an experienced Financial Controller to take overall responsibility for the finance function and play a key role within the Senior Leadership Team. This is a broad, commercially focused position combining financial control, commercial finance, business intelligence, reporting and digital transformation, with the successful candidate having genuine influence over the wider business.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will lead the finance function and provide strategic financial insight to support profitable growth and informed decision-making. You will oversee financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, compliance and governance, while working closely with the Commercial and Operational teams to improve project profitability and financial performance. A key part of the role will also be developing the company's management information and digital reporting capabilities, including Power BI dashboards, automated reporting and integration between Sage, HubSpot, EQ2 and other business systems. You will also lead and develop the existing finance team, working closely with senior stakeholders and external advisers.
Experience Required
- Fully qualified ACCA, ACA or CIMA status.
- Proven experience within the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of CIS, VAT and construction accounting.
- Good understanding of project costing, WIP, CVRs and construction cash flow.
- Experience producing management accounts and commercial financial analysis.
- Strong budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling experience.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Strong Power BI reporting and dashboard development experience.
- Experience integrating and improving multiple business systems.
- Strong Sage experience; Sage 200 would be advantageous.
- Excellent commercial awareness and business partnering skills.
- Confidence operating as part of a Senior Leadership Team.
- Experience leading and developing a finance team.
- Experience with HubSpot, SQL, Power Query or wider digital transformation projects would be advantageous.
