The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced ICorr-certified Protective Coatings Inspector to support a major, high-profile construction development in South Wales.
The project involves the delivery of a large-scale indoor entertainment and events venue, with a strong emphasis on workmanship, durability, technical compliance and quality assurance across multiple construction packages.
This is a site-based inspection assignment for a qualified coatings professional who can independently assess work against approved specifications, identify defects and maintain accurate inspection records.
Applicants must hold a current, relevant ICorr Level 2 or Level 3 qualification. We are looking for an experienced inspector who can contribute from day one.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect protective coating works in accordance with project specifications, approved procedures and inspection and test plans.
- Assess surface preparation and verify that substrates meet the specified acceptance criteria before coating application.
- Monitor coating application, environmental conditions, curing and other relevant process controls.
- Carry out appropriate inspections and tests using calibrated equipment, recording results accurately.
- Check coating thickness, surface cleanliness, environmental conditions and other parameters relevant to the specified coating system.
- Review technical documentation, product data sheets, method statements and coating inspection requirements.
- Identify defects, deviations and non-conformances, ensuring that corrective actions are recorded and followed through.
- Produce clear inspection reports, daily records, photographic evidence and quality documentation.
- Liaise with site management, coating applicators, subcontractors and quality personnel to resolve technical issues.
- Ensure that inspection activities comply with project requirements and applicable standards.
Essential Requirements
- Current ICorr Protective Coatings Inspector certification at Level 2 or Level 3, appropriate to the work being inspected.
- Proven experience inspecting protective coatings on construction, structural steelwork or comparable industrial projects.
- Strong understanding of surface preparation, coating application, inspection methods and acceptance criteria.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, coating procedures and inspection documentation.
- Experience using relevant inspection equipment and maintaining accurate test records.
- A methodical approach to quality control, defect identification and non-conformance reporting.
- Confidence working independently on a live construction site.
- Availability for a freelance assignment in Cardiff.
Desirable
- ICorr Level 3 certification and experience in specification analysis, inspection planning and procedure development.
- Experience with complex steelwork, structural coatings or major public-venue construction.
- Additional recognised coatings inspection qualifications, such as AMPP/NACE or FROSIO, where relevant to the project.
- Experience working within formal QA/QC systems and inspection and test plans.
