A regional house builder has a requirement for a Planner to join their Technical and Planning team to ensure the delivery of fully implementable planning consents to meet business targets. Reporting to the Planning Director, you will carry out planning and development appraisals, prepare and submit planning and other related applications within the residential sector for both immediate and strategic sites.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Advising upon planning policy requirements which influence projects
- Advising upon local plan statuses within the region and strategic policies influencing housing
- Advising upon what planning approvals are required to ensure site starts are achieved
- Advising upon validation requirements for planning application submissions
- Having a working knowledge of the contractual obligations concerning planning submissions and the communication of planning documentation
- Attending planning committees and representing the business as required
- Providing input into viabilities concerning affordable housing requirements, commuted sum payments, obligations and CIL
- Networking and building relationships with Council planning officers, local politicians and members of the public engaged in the planning process
- Assisting the Planning Director on any public consultation arrangements
- Complying with and upholding company policies and procedures
- Undertaking any additional tasks as may reasonably be required from time to time
- Ensuring that all planning conditions are discharged in a timely manner in line with business plan requirements
- Co-ordinating the preparation and submission of planning applications, working closely with the Planning Manager and wider team
- Assisting with formulating and implementing planning strategies for each development
Skills & Experience required:
- RTPI-accredited town planning or relevant built environment degree
- 2 years of planning experience related to housing within housebuilding, consultancy, land promoter or local authority
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
- Understanding of the planning policy requirements that influence major housing developments
- Understanding the process and timescales associated with securing planning permission for major housing developments
- Experience of supporting or coordinating the preparation of residential planning applications and Local Plan representations
- Experience in undertaking planning appraisals of potential development sites
