An experienced / ambitious Site Manager is required to work with the Project Manager and construction team on a £60m+ new defence project near Hook, Hampshire. Works are due to commence on site in the summer next year for a 2 year duration, with some initial survey works to be undertaken prior.
Reporting to the Project Manager/Senior Site Manager and working with 1-2 other Site Managers, you will be responsible for managing all site-based construction activities for your section / area including:
- Coordination of trade sub-contractors;
- Mid and short-term programming of works;
- Input to design development with consultant design team;
- Ensuring company health and safety standards are planned, communicated, achieved and enforced;
- Review of method statements and risk assessments (RAMS);
- Organising deliveries of materials, logistics, waste management, etc;
- Quality control; Inspections and test plans;
- Coordination meetings with trades and other managers;
- Reporting on progress against program;
- Snagging and handover.
You will undertake the initial survey works of the existing buildings on site reporting to a visiting project manager, then remain throughout site set-up and the duration of the project. Works will take place within a live operational site, requiring regular liaison and communication with the stakeholders / end users. It may also require SC clearance, so previous experience of working on a live defence site would be advantageous.
The contractor is the busy regional office of a larger main contractor group with roughly £150m annual turnover, and a proven track record in the delivery of medium to large new build and refurbishment schemes from £25m to 100m in the higher and secondary education, health care, defence, research and development sectors. The patch focus includes Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire and occasionally Sussex, secured through a mixture of negotiated schemes, frameworks and competitive tenders.
The successful candidate will be motivated, proactive, demonstrating sound technical, organisational, man‑management, communication and communication skills. Proven track record of work for a top twenty main contractor would be advantageous. Ideally from a construction management or engineering background with a sharp eye for detail and quality, you will possess good planning and problem solving ability, with a positive, ‘get it right first time’ approach. A degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management would be advantageous.
This role would suit an ambitious SM looking to consolidate this role in a large site team or an experienced SM looking for a new role; You will be able to run your own section of works / building within the wider site team. You will possess your SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid qualifications for this role. High standards, attention to detail and the drive to deliver on spec, budget and programme will be very well rewarded with excellent salary, benefits, promotional and development prospects.
