Fawkes & Reece have an exciting opportunity in the Cardiff area for an experienced Design Manager to join a multi award-winning Main Contractor operating across the Construction, Retail, and Fit‑Out sectors throughout the UK. This is a senior role offering the chance to work on high‑profile projects within a business known for its excellent staff retention and supportive working environment.
Role
Reporting to the Directors, the Design Manager will be responsible for leading the project design team and acting as a key link between the Design and Site teams on a day‑to‑day basis. You will:
- Lead and manage the project design team
- Coordinate and chair design team meetings as required
- Ensure all design data is communicated clearly and promptly
- Liaise closely with delivery teams and key stakeholders
- Drive value engineering solutions across multiple projects
- Ensure designs comply with current codes, standards, and CDM regulations
The role will involve regular travel to attend design meetings and busy sites across South Wales. Occasional overnight stays may be required, with all accommodation costs covered by the company.
Key Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3+ years' experience managing a busy design team within a main contractor environment
- Proven experience working on large “shed‑type” projects
- Chartered status (desirable)
- Strong understanding of CDM regulations and safety legislation
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proven ability to deliver innovative, value‑adding design solutions
- Strong technical design knowledge
Software & IT Requirements
- Advanced user of Autodesk AutoCAD
- Working knowledge of 3D design software
- Proficient with Microsoft Office packages
- Familiarity with commonly used design software

- Must be within commutable distance of central Cardiff
