An established and growing organisation within the marine and engineering sector is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee the accounting and financial control requirements across two UK entities. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Group Financial Controller overseas, this is a key position responsible for maintaining accurate financial reporting, supporting business planning and ensuring strong financial controls across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day accounting activities across both UK entities.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and reporting for the wider Group.
- Oversee general ledger reconciliations, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Prepare weekly and monthly internal and Group financial reports.
- Lead the preparation of annual financial statements and liaise with external auditors.
- Prepare VAT returns in accordance with UK regulations.
- Manage intercompany transactions, including currency transactions and reporting.
- Maintain accurate financial data within the company's ERP/MRP systems.
- Generate and analyse financial reports using reporting tools.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and quarterly forecasting.
- Manage daily cash flow requirements.
- Maintain and update rolling four-month cash flow forecasts on a weekly basis.
- Manage sales orders and invoicing through the ERP system.
- Process monthly payroll and pension submissions.
- Act as a key point of contact for employee-related financial and payroll matters.
- Complete relevant ONS submissions.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies and Group procedures.
- Support the migration and development of accounting and financial control systems across both entities.
- Assist with potential future organisational restructuring and legal entity consolidation.
Requirements:
- Degree-level qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- 5+ years' experience in financial control, accounting or a similar position.
- CCAB qualification or equivalent would be advantageous.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience working with ERP systems, ideally within an SAP/MRP-type environment.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and financial reporting tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to work collaboratively across different teams and with international stakeholders.
